I'm Mina, an artist, webdev, and computer science major. I'm a 24 year-old mixed West-African girl residing in the US.
I mainly make digital art, but I also do writing, gamedev, and other mediums. I want to try everything lol.
I love things that are melancholic, surreal, or exude strong emotions. I like when a work of art is able to make me feel something raw or visceral. This is the main reason why I believe in freedom of human expression and creativity. These are pretty much my personal feelings regarding art and how I choose to engage with it.
I have always been drawn to stories about 'strange' girls, and stories with complex character relationships. Hopefully, that is the atmosphere I am able to create with my characters and stories! My creative 'dream' is to showcase my OC universe via video games and other forms of art, so everything I do is another step towards that.
The Violet Abyss was actually started several years ago, but I never actually got back to it until the start of 2026, motivated by the desire to have a place of my own on the web where I could freely express myself without worrying about things like social media algorithms or fandom culture.
Unfortunately, I don't really feel much of a desire to interact with fandom spaces on social media anymore. It sucks, because I still do enjoy creating and admiring fanworks, as well as discussing/analyzing media with other fans, but the modern internet in general has just been so hostile. That hostility is something I refuse to adopt or further contribute to, so it is what it is.
I try to be kind, and I try to still be open to connecting with others, as long as they're mature and open-minded. Getting to be part of the indieweb has been a very pleasant change of scenery. It's been so fun meeting new people and discovering cool websites!
I want this site to represent me as I am, and not a 'manufactured' image. I don't mean this in the sense that I desire to be 'more unique' than others because I don't really care about that, but rather that I value sincerity and authenticity, and I want my website and creative works to reflect that.
I think with the way social media encourages us to devalue our creative work into digestable 'content', having sincerity is really important!
The full list of resources I used for the Violet Abyss are in the Credits of my Links Out page.
I'm always trying to improve on my work, hence why this site will always be in-progress. I will (try to) keep this website up no matter what. The Violet Abyss is a piece of myself that I can leave behind in the vast sea of the internet.
