i am at a local county 4h fair and I just spent the past 20 minutes absolutely crashing out because WHAT DO YOU MEAN 20 ride tickets for $10 when most of the rides are 9 TICKETS TO RIDE??? LIKE EVEN THE FUN HOUSES!!!! YOU’RE TELLING ME IM PAYING A MINIMUM OF LIKE $30 FOR 2 PEOPLE TO RIDE THE FERRIS WHEEL TOGETHER AND NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE??? WHY IS THE FERRIS WHEEL 15 TICKETS???? YOU CANT EVEN DO ANYTHING WITH THE EXTRA KF YOU HAD ANY!
So you’re basically forced to shell out the $32 per person for the wristband, which is fine for people who have the money for that, but spending the same amount for 1 wristband (literally the same for the goddamn $2 card activation fee) so 2 people can ride ONE RIDE is insane.
If anybody has dug into North American Midway Entertainment, please let me know, send me the video essay link or whatever else there is because this company has felt shady to me for a long time and I want vindication.
if you have the chance to go see Will Wood and the Tapeworms on their current tour go do it because it was freaking MAGICAL.
Hi everyone! I found an interesting article about ADHD. Apparently according to one study, sleep waves seem to appear during wakefulness. Here’s an excerpt from the article:
“Frequent forgetfulness, careless mistakes, or difficulty sustaining attention and resisting distractions: attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) affects about 2.5% of adults, yet its biological mechanisms remain poorly understood.
In a study published in TheJournal of Neuroscience, an international team suggests that the symptoms of this disorder may be linked to the intrusion of slow waves—usually observed during sleep—into wakefulness.
This phenomenon, known as “local sleep,” could explain the fluctuations in attention and the drowsiness often observed in people with ADHD.
To reach these conclusions, researchers compared the brain activity of 32 adults with ADHD who were receiving medication with that of 31 neurotypical adults, while participants performed a task requiring sustained attention.
The result: “Adults with ADHD show a significantly higher density of slow waves, which are usually observed during deep sleep. These waves are not trivial: the higher their density, the more participants make inattentive errors and show slower or more variable reaction times,” explains Thomas Andrillon (Inserm), researcher in the DreamTeam at the Paris Brain Institute and senior author of the study.
Participants with ADHD also reported more episodes of “mind wandering” and “mind blanking,” two states directly correlated with these local sleep intrusions. In addition, the level of fatigue reported by participants increased as slow-wave activity accumulated during sustained attentional effort”

That's interesting! I wonder if that's related to a struggle I have?
Everyday, I have 'cycles' of energy. I don't know how long I've had them; I only noticed them once I started taking ADHD meds, and the 'peak' of the cycles grew high enough to be clearly distinct from the lows.
I go through approximately... 2 hour loops? Where I start 'revving up', my brain starts working better and moving faster (15-30 mins, normally around 20); I reach the 'peak' of the cycle and this becomes the time I can actually *do things* most easily, connections readily form and ideas spring to life *and into action* (if I'm lucky) (lasts for maybe 20-30 minutes, closer to 20); after that is a slow slide into a drop until I'm lagging, struggling to do things that I wasn't already doing when this process started - and even then, I'm operating on substandard levels - and struggling to feel or do anything beyond the baseline; until, finally, I get back to 'neutral', where I hover for a while, until the cycle starts all over again.
I try to structure my days around this cycle as best as I can - if I'm going to do something reqyiring effort that day, I try to start it right before/as I start moving into gear. I allow myself understanding for not being able to do almost a n y t h i n g during the 'low' periods - especially later in the day, when the 'peaks' get lower and the 'troughs' lower still.
Even in the early 'lows' when I can still kind of do things, I'll find myself more forgetful and make more careless mistakes; in the late 'lows', I'll often find myself almost just - blank; empty. Until the cycle restarts... Which is why I wonder if my (a bit under) 2 hour cycles are related to this 'local sleep' phenomenon!
no, I experience something really similar (undiagnosed but mostly cause my mom didn’t want me on meds, long story).
I wake up in the morning, lag a bit, then can function and do stuff and at around the 1.5-2 hour mark I’m slowing in my functionality. I usually wait to have coffee until that point because the caffeine helps give me a boost to get me going again, and then by the early afternoon I’m tired again mentally and have to slow down.
But by the time it’s late and bedtime, I have energy again. I’ve seen and read discourse over reclassifying ADHD as a circadian rhythm disorder, but this adds another layer to it.
ok so this book was absolutely insane. First off, I was absolutely intrigued by the concept, a tradwife influencer who ends up transported to the 1800s to actually live the lifestyle she encourages? But this book was so so so much more than that. Of you were expecting it drama it definitely brought it but there’s so much more to it than just that.
I’m going to keep this spoiler free, just know that there are several twists and I didn’t see them coming.
What initially made me want to read this book now (as in literally now, I finished it in a couple of hours) was a video I saw talking about how most of the book is actually her talking about her life. It acts as sort of a memoir almost about Natalie Heller Mills, not just her experiencing the real traditional life. She goes through her background, her upbringing, how she became an influencer, how she gained her family, etc. all interspersed in a back and forth between that life and the 1800s life.
Some things you may want to note, it does have some sexual scenes (this was surprising to me lol), as well as some violence, and mention of neglect and animal abuse. There’s also a significant amount of political theming, and obviously a lot of religious theming as well, so if you’re sensitive to those sorts of things you might not want to read this one.
Overall, I think it was a 4.5/5 stars! For being author Caro Claire Burke’s first novel it was absolutely amazing, a truly spectacular debut. The pacing was well, and the entire thing is basically just one long internal monologue, so once you get used to that it’s pretty smooth.

HOLY CRAP IM SO VLAD I WAS SMART. So when Wait For Me (Reprise) was trending audio I immediately realized that I should check out hadestown, and then I heard Chant and realized I REALLY had to check out hadestown. But I also knew from word of mouth, that it would be absolutely devastating. So I made the decision about a year ago that I would not get into hadestown (i.e. listening to the soundtrack, watching a bootleg recording, etc.) until I could see it.
So my partner and I went to go see the proshot today, and HOLY CRAP DUDE KT WAS AMAZING. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to experience the show, except perhaps being there in person. The cast was fantastic and perfect, the overall proshot beats out Hamilton for me, I absolutely loved it. Reeve Carney has my heart and dear Lord I kept hitting the joker tongue face every. single. time. Patrick Page did anything on screen. I did not think there was a hades I could love more that the one from Hercules but LORD ALMIGHTY that man…
Plot-wise I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and death gripping my husband’s hand. I definitely wished for the ending to be different than what it’s fated to be, and maybe it’ll be different next time!!!! (“THEY’RE MARRIED AND HAPPY TOGETHER” -I shout as they drag me from the theater.) Persephone was amazing as well, Amber slaughtered that role and the way she and Patrick interact is just absolutely beautiful. Hermes as the narrator was bittersweet to me (I had a dearly beloved uncle who passed recently who was VERY Hermes. Seriously, I think they had the same suit.), and the Fates being so aggressive and vicious was absolutely perfect as fate is often cruel.
And finally my absolute favorite detail. It’s been pointed out before, but I love love LOVE that not only does Hades and Persephone’s story mirror Orpheus and Eurydice’s, but genuinely the fact that Hades gives Orpheus a task that even HE couldn’t accomplish. There are several points throughout the show where he does infact do the thing (not a spoiler? It’s a very old story but yk).
Anyways go watch hadestown, it’s absolutely worth it and I pray for the day they drop it on dvd so I can buy it.
