Nathan Knowler

About

My name is Nathan Knowler. I live on Treaty 1 territory, also known as Winnipeg, with my family. I grew up in Metro Vancouver, but I’ve lived on the Canadian Prairies for the past decade.

I am a web developer

I built my first website in 2006 and since then the Web has been my jam.

Though, I was building websites throughout my youth, it wasn’t until I was at college that I made a career of it. At first I did a lot of freelance work with various connections I had, but eventually I started finding work for larger businesses and organizations.

I’ve worked full stack a lot of my career, however, the frontend is my preference. I particularly enjoy working on design systems when I have the opportunity.

I believe the Web is for everyone

Moving to Saskatchewan in 2013 made me realize that my experience of the Web in the well-connected tech hub of Vancouver was not the norm for everyone everywhere. It was then that I began the journey of learning how others experience the Web and how I could positively or negatively impact those experiences in my work as a web developer.

That experience got me interested in both web performance and accessibility. Since then both of these have been foundational to my practice.
