A colophon is a page or section (typically in a footer) of a site that describes how the site is made, with what tools, supporting what technologies, and often published on personal sites at a top level /colophon page.

Analytics

For analytics, I use Cabin, a privacy-focused alternative to Google Analytics.

I really like how easy it is to use - it’s literally 1 line of JavaScript you paste into the footer and it’s done!

I prefer it to Google Analytics because it doesn’t use any cookies and runs on renewable energy.

For more info on how Cabin collects analytics, please visit Cabin’s privacy page.

Also, I personally found the Google Analytics dashboard really confusing, so the simplicity of the Cabin dashboard is really nice.

Hosting

I use Cloudflare pages to host my website as of July 2026. I used to use GitHub pages and a public repository, but in early July GitHub pages started to repeatedly fail to deploy the site. I could only determine this to be a GitHub pages issue since my site was building fine and my actions file was up to date. Out of frustration having to ‘babysit’ every single deployment, I switched the hosting to Cloudflare pages.

I use Cloudflare pages for my cdn because it’s quick and someone recommended it to me. They said it’d deliver the files quicker and more reliably than GitHub Pages, where I hosted it before. About a month into using it, I’m still very happy with its performance.

Domain

I use Porkbun because they offer a lot of domain services for free, services other registrars charge extra for…

Framework

My website uses Hugo, an open-source static site generator.

I like Hugo most for it’s speed. My website will build and deploy in less than 30 seconds.

The support available and solid documentation mean any issues I run unto or questions I have can be quickly and easily answered. They also have a really wide range of themes to choose from - I recommend PaperMod by Aditya Telange, the theme I use for this website!

It’s popularity also means there’s lots of support available, and it’s easy to Google questions and get quick answers.

Fonts

I use Atkinson Hyperlegible Next for the main website font, and Atkinson Hyperlegible Mono for any code snippets.

I use this font because, as the name suggests, it has been designed explicitly to be easy to read. It was created by The Braille Institute of America, and is free for anyone for personal or commercial uses. It’s designed to be accessible, so I use it on all of my projects.

I’d encourage you to read more about this font on the Braille Institute website. It’s also available to download on Google Fonts.

Theme

I made this website for fun, and to use my domain for something. Since initially doing this, I’ve fallen in love with blogging and the small web all over again. I’m not good at coding and have no formal education, so my code is super messy (sorry about that!), but I’m having a blast learning as I go!

The site is made using Hugo, and the theme is based on Papermod by Aditya Telange. By now I’ve made many modifications to it, but I still keep PaperMod in my themes folder as a fallback, so credit still goes to them.

I was introduced to both Hugo and PaperMod by Pascal Michaillat. I don’t know them personally, but when I was googling a free template for a GitHub pages website, his repo hugo-website came up as a result, and I loved it.

Credit to both Aditya and Pascal, thank you both!
