As if the universe knew this was on my mind, literally a minute after emailing Antonio Santos about their comment section and how I could implement a similar one on this site, Kali Kambo’s reply to this same post popped up in my RSS feed.
The timing is astounding.
Reading both the original post and Kali’s reply and reflecting on them, I’ve decided to refrain from adding a comment section on my site. My main reasoning is inline with James’ points on not wanting to replicate social media and posting just to fuel engagement.
My primary rationale behind removing all comment sections on my blog was that they reminded me too much of social media.
It almost made me feel like I was writing blog posts with the main objective to garner comments/engagement rather than self-expression
My website definitely isn’t meant to replicate social media, and I’m not too concerned with engagement (by choice).
I guess in my searching through others’ blogs to find ideas I saw some people have comment sections and said “Sure, why not” without considering how it would impact my site and how I feel about it & use it.
I guess the point of my reply here is to thank James for their thoughts on the matter, and thank Kali for causing James’ post to come across my feed. Again, the timing is astounding!
