New house and another family member
Our third child and first son was born in early July. It's a weird but amazing feeling to have another individual in our existing household of four. Our daughters have grown up to have such distinct personalities, so you wonder how possibly there's any void left to fill.
In the Spring, we bought a (pair) house further out towards the Stockholm archipelago. We love it, and it'll suit us perfectly in the coming years. Sad to leave our friends and neighbours in the area where we are at currently: we've grown to become very close friends with many here, and it's a shame to lose that daily social stimuli.
Travelling
We went back to Cape Town during December-January. See photos on this handcoded site of mine. I loved coming back once more after our six month stint in 2024-2025. We saw our old friends there, and went around in our neighbourhood. I love revisiting places I've lived.
During December, we stayed in Hout Bay and did day trips all over — just enjoying everyday life. In January, we got on the road on this route: Riebeek-Kasteel, Cederberg, Swellendam, Oudtshoorn, Plettenberg Bay, Wilderness, Hemel-en-Aarde, Cape Town. I'm very glad we got to see more of the country.
Exercising
Still enjoying going to the gym to lift weights. Am on a good roll at the moment: I feel strong.
Reading
Back on the African theme. I've read some books on Zimbabwe (when it was called "Rhodesia") and South Africa, and have found a few others to pursue later.
Music
I'm listening to so much reggae/roots/dub! Here's my playlist. Other music just feels so bland and flat compared to what I dig up from 70s Jamaican producers and DJs.
Learning
Languages
I'm toiling on with my Italian Duolingo exercises each day: now on a 1000+ day streak! I've eyed some proper university level classes in beginner Italian at some schools here, maybe I'll take one on 50% and remote during next Spring.
Programming
I've rebuilt this site with my own static site generator and template language. Fun experience. It's hosted on an Ubuntu box, bye bye GitHub Pages. Feels good to self-host my things, like we used to do in the olden days.
Cooking
Now is barbeque/braai season! Sadly won't have time to do some in the new house, but I plan on getting a charcoal barbeque for next Summer.
If my life changes, I'll update this page. Also see what's on my mind.
