At All Day Hey in Leeds (2024).
What I talk about
These are some of the subjects I have given talks about:
- tech ethics and AI
(ethics and AI, a better future for the web should we want, human rights + standards) - web platform / UI
(design systems, dialogs vs popovers, making components accessibly, new Web Platform features to make them easier to build, Open UI) - digital accessibility
(practical tips, accessibility standards, regulation, the Accessibility Object Model, ARIA in practice, process) - digital sustainability (Web Sustainability Guidelines, AI + sustainability)
- CSS and design
(history, flexbox, Grid Layout, graphic design and the web)
Previous experience
In the past 9 years, I have given 92 talks at conferences, meetups and virtual events. Some keynotes, others interactive breakouts, with attendees ranging from managers to subject matter experts. Events include Pixel Pioneers, JSConf India, CSS Day (3x), dotCSS, Beyond Tellerrand (2x), Accessibility Club Conference, a11y Toronto, Web Directions, JSConf Budapest, UX London, and State of the Browser.
I did in-house talks/workshops for Bol.com, NOS, ABN Amro Bank, Mozilla, Sanoma Learning, and many others.
Find all my public talks, including slides, resources and transcripts at https://noti.st/hdv. Some slide decks have a full transcript that is equivalent to the visual slides, it can be found via the ‘View all slides’ link (example).
Invite me to speak
If you’d like me at your event, email me.
Please be as detailed as you can: budget, date, location, type of session (keynote/breakout/workshop), target audience, audience expected size etc can help me get back to you quicker.
Please note:
- I cannot participate in events that clearly lack diversity, will not participate in “man-els”.
- In principle, I expect to be paid. This is unless I am representing my employer, in which case I won't accept payment, but would align my talk with their goals and priorities.
- I don't arrange sponsorships for my employer.
In-house
I also do in-house talks and workshops, anywhere from 45 minutes to a full day. Get in touch for more info. Limited availability.
