ready time

โ† All routines

Out the door on time, without the yelling.

Every parent knows the drill: shoes are missing, someone needs to pee again, and the one who was ready five minutes ago is now naked. You can't control all of that. You can start the sequence early enough that there's room for it.

Kid time takes longer than you think

Adults underestimate kid time by at least 50%. Getting dressed often runs closer to 15 minutes: 5 finding clothes and 10 convincing someone to wear them. Breakfast is 10 minutes of eating plus 5 more cleaning cereal off the floor. Backward planning only works when the durations are honest.

The plan in Ready Time

  1. Set the deadline. That's the time you need to be ready.
  2. Add your steps and how long each one really takes.
  3. Ready Time works backward and gives every step a start time.
Out the Door
10 min Wake kids 6:35 AM
15 min Get dressed 6:45 AM
20 min Breakfast 7:00 AM
10 min Teeth & hair 7:20 AM
10 min Pack bags & lunches 7:30 AM
5 min Shoes & jackets 7:40 AM
Out the Door 7:45 AM

One notification per step

Instead of one alarm that says "leave now" (which is already too late), Ready Time sends a notification for each step. Wake them at 6:50. Clothes at 7:00. Breakfast at 7:15. Each tap is the next thing that needs to happen. You follow the sequence instead of tracking it in your head.

Can I share the morning routine with my partner?

The usual failure is both of you assuming the other one is handling breakfast. Share the plan and your partner gets the same steps at the same times on their phone, with their own alerts for each one. Nobody has to ask what comes next, and the two of you stop covering the same step twice.

Both of you, working from one morning

Your partner sees wake at 6:35, dressed at 6:45, breakfast at 7:00.

Their phone alerts them for each step, so nobody covers the same one twice.
