New Age Verification Requirements Information

We have an important update regarding access to future Furality Online Xperience conventions.

Starting with Furality Ultra, all attendees will be required to be 18+ and age verified by June 4th, 2026.

Age verification can be completed through VRChat's age verification system or through Yoti, our age verification provider. Both options are free for registered attendees.

  • If you are already 18+ age verified on VRChat, no additional steps are needed.
  • If you would like to get age verified on VRChat, registration includes free access to VRChat's age verification, even if you are not a VRChat+ subscriber. Attendees who register with vouchers from friends, our hardship program, or through event participation will also receive free VRChat age verification. Verifying through VRChat gives you 18+ verified status on your VRChat account across the entire platform.
  • Alternatively, you can verify through Yoti, our age verification provider. The process is similar: you scan your ID document, take a selfie, and the system confirms you're 18+. Yoti verification confirms your age for attending Furality Online Xperience only and does not give you 18+ verified status within VRChat.

As Furality has grown into a large-scale online event with tens of thousands of attendees from many regions, it has become increasingly important for us to set clear, enforceable attendance expectations. During the main convention, activities take place across thousands of simultaneous VRChat instances, making it impractical to ensure every space can be directly staffed by moderators at all times.

We also anticipate that age verification will, at some point, become a platform standard for large events, either through social expectations or legal requirements. We don’t know if a platform requirement will happen before our next event or not, but we want to minimize possible disruption due to a major change like this in the middle of an event cycle.

Age verification allows us to apply a consistent safeguard across the entire event, regardless of instance size or location. This helps create a more predictable and sustainable environment for attendees, without requiring active monitoring of every instance or relying solely on after-the-fact moderation, and allows us to operate responsibly as online age-related regulations and expectations continue to evolve globally.

It’s important to note what this change does not affect. We are not changing our policies around content, behavior, or avatars. Furality Online Xperience remains a public, platform-partnered event, and all VRChat Terms of Service continue to apply. An 18+ attendance requirement does not mean explicit or inappropriate content will be permitted.

Other Furality-run activities, such as Club F.Y.N.N. Replay events, public-access Dealer’s Den previews, and Supporter Meetups, operate at a much smaller scale and within a limited number of hosted instances. These events can be fully staffed by our moderation team and will therefore not be subject to the same 18+ age verification requirement.

This change was announced ahead of registration opening so that no existing attendees are affected. In the event that an attendee is unable to complete age verification through either option due to technical issues, we have a process in place to ensure affected ticket holders can receive a full refund.

We understand this will be disappointing news for community members who are currently under 18. We value younger members of the furry community and recognize how important inclusive online social spaces can be. While Furality Online Xperience will move to an 18+ verified model, we look forward to welcoming back any previous attendees once they are able to verify as 18+.

Age Verification FAQ

Does Furality receive or see my ID or personal information?

No. Age verification is handled entirely by VRChat and their verification provider, or by Yoti, depending on which option you choose. Furality does not receive, store, or have access to any identity documents or personal verification data. Furality only receives a pass or fail result indicating whether an attendee is 18+.

Who is responsible for the verification process?

VRChat manages their own age verification system, including the choice of verification provider and how verification is performed. Yoti is a separate age verification provider that Furality offers as an alternative option. In both cases, verification is performed by the provider, not by Furality.

What if I can't complete age verification due to a technical issue?

If you are unable to complete age verification through either option due to technical issues, we have a process in place to ensure affected ticket holders can receive a full refund.

Is age verification required for all Furality events?

No. The 18+ verification requirement applies only to Furality Online Xperience. Smaller Furality-run events that operate within a limited number of staffed instances are not affected.

Does this mean explicit content will be allowed?

No. All existing content, behavior, and avatar rules remain in effect, and VRChat's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines still apply.

Can I verify my age by sending my ID directly to Furality?

No. Furality does not accept identification documents or personal verification materials through Discord, email, support tickets, or any other channel. All age verification is handled securely through VRChat's verification provider or Yoti after the registration process. What is the difference between verifying through VRChat and Yoti?

VRChat age verification gives you 18+ verified status on your VRChat account that applies across the entire platform, including for Furality Online Xperience. Yoti verification only confirms your age for the purpose of attending Furality Online Xperience and does not affect your VRChat account.

Does Furality receive my personal information through Yoti?

Privacy & Data

No. If you verify through VRChat, VRChat does not receive or store personal information from the verification process, except for your verified date of birth. VRChat's age verification provider does not store any identity information after verification is complete. If you verify through Yoti, all personal data is deleted once the check is complete, and no information is shared with VRChat. In either case, Furality only receives a pass or fail result. What happens to my data after verifying through Yoti?

Yoti does not retain any personally identifiable information after verification is complete. Selfie images are deleted immediately and are not used for training or shared with anyone. All personal data from the session is deleted once the check is complete. The only thing Yoti retains is an anonymized audit trail: the session ID, the type of check, and the pass/fail result. All data is processed exclusively on Yoti's UK servers under UK data protection law.
