  • Hosted my birthday at TipTops and had a blast! More climbing!!

  • Bought my first Apartment and spent all of november on renovations and learned so much.

theme

I do yearly themes. I don't put a lot of active work into it, it just gives me a golden thread for the year, a way to bring me happiness in myself.

This year was healthier living.

It came as a need for me to be stronger, stable and trusting in my own body. One of the "small" goals came from me having to visit a physiotherapist twice due to sudden back problems, it simple stems from sitting too much down and not doing more of the opposite.

The first half of the year went very nice. Started out weekly burpees, together with pulls-ups using one of those door-gym-handlebars. Biking became more of an active sport for me and I did 1-3 ~30-60km trips a week.

At some point this fell flat - I got caught up in work, my new website was taking a lot of attention, biking was too cold and winter flu came in.

As I am writing this, I felt initially sad about my achievements, but to be honest. I am very proud of the initial part. It felt great and I intend to revitalise my physical activities.

Another focus area of the theme was also attention. To put short, we all dopamin addicts out here and spending so much shitty time on scrolling on random-ass media. I hate it, and I don't like the way I spent time on it.

In the other half of the year, I actually saw my own attention being very focus. I gave a lot of energy to my website and small projects. I don't find myself visiting my two doomsites (reddit + hackernews) as much any longer.

website & self hosting

NeoCities.org and all its weird little smolweb, tadiweb or whatever has really started for me.

There has been a constant debate in my head on the terminologies I wanna work with. What are the different things my site? Diaries? Journals? Notes? Thoughts? At the start of the year it was diaries, then it became written and at the end of the year with my latest redesign I have moved to a much more aesthetical pasttense, "texted".

I have really enjoyed this process of figuring out what my website is.

My old website at jalict.com was mainly to get into the games industry. This year it evolved into a sort of blogging and sharing platform.

And now, with my new design, I am moving into further reflection and summarising of my year in several "packaged" formats.

One of my biggest inspirations for websiting~ here in 2024 has been html-chunder aka zkbro (who I found through a post by @jlsksr@mastodon.online) who has such a methodological and consistent website posting and setup. I had been working on my new website for 2 months and discovered zkbro's website and I was stunned by how many reflections of myself I saw there. A lot of the things happening there (and the writing) falls right in what I also wish to do.

I wanna give a shoutout to NeoCities (and nekoweb!) for creating such a great platform and supporting such an interesting piece of the internet. Unfortunately, with their latest changes

favourites

movies

  • The Taste of Things. Basic plot, but I adored all the characters and the cinematography.
  • Jodorowsky’s Dune. Pure mania. Following this, I had to read The Incal.
  • One sings, the other doesn't, was my favourite movie of this year. Such strong characters and relations. Made me long for relations. And, I wanna visit Hyères, France now!

tv series

  • SILO is really great. I love dystopia with mysteries and world-building that just makes sense. Rebecca Ferguson and Tim Robbins has been incredible in their roles.
  • Finished watching The Orville - was almost going daily with it. One of those shows I wished had many more episodes - season 1 was definitely nicest, the awkwardness was just great. But I really just lived for watching it! Discovered it based on the meme with Bortus requesting "500 cigarettes" from their food dispenser.
