Proper noun

Max

  1. A male given name from Latin.
    • 2002, Cynthia Heimel, If You Can't Live Without Me, Why Aren't You Dead Yet?, Grove Press, →ISBN, page 177:
Since it seems to me that this fad of child-rearing has turned into an actual trend, that babies are an increasingly popular accessory for people-on-the-go, I first want to say to stop naming your boys Max. Max is a perfectly nice name, ensuring its owner a certain precocious sensibility, but there are enough Maxes now. Any more Maxes and the breed will go to the dogs.
    • 2015, Max:
      Kyle: Okay, Max. Search.
  2. A diminutive of the male given names Maximilian and Maxwell.
    • 2023 June 15, Eli Masket and Michelle Watson, “A city in Michigan votes to permanently ban Pride flags from display on public property during Pride Month”, in CNN[1], archived from the original on 30 June 2025:
Hamtramck is described in the resolution as “one of the most diverse cities in the United States.” The city has a large immigrant presence and all the city council members are of the Muslim faith, city manager Max Garbarino told CNN Thursday. Hamtramck was also the first known city in the US to inaugurate an all-Muslim government, CNN previously reported.
    • 2025 July 22, Max Pond, “What is Durfing? (Explained by a Mormon)”, in LDS Quotations[2], archived from the original on 22 December 2025:
Hi, I’m Max Pond. I’m an active mormon, or member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
  3. A diminutive of the female given name Maxine.

    Max c (genitive Max)

    1. a male given name
      • 1975, Christer Kihlman, Dyre prins, Wahlström & Widstrand, →ISBN, page 113:
