Legislature of the European Union → European Union legislative procedure – Legislature is neither a common nor the official way of referring to the way in which the EU adopts legislation. It implies that the EU fits into the traditional tripartite separation of powers when it doesn't. The word procedure is by far the commonest way of describing how the EU enacts legislation, not legislature; as a search for "Legislature of the European Union" on Google confirms. — Blue-Haired Lawyer ^t 15:41, 10 July 2014 (UTC)

Typo needing correction?

Commission is not a legislative body

The Commission has no capacity to legislate, as falsely claimed in the article ("(...) the European Union is considered to have three legislative bodies: the European Commission (...)"). It takes initiatives, yes, similar to how a government proposes laws. But like a government, it does not legislate itself. Please keep these two things separated. Proposing laws is not the same as legislating. According to article 289 TFEU, a legislative act is – by definition – one which has been adopted in accordance with a legislative procedure by the European Parliament and/or the Council. Any legal act adopted by the Commission itself is by definition not a legislative act.

In addition, article 14.1 and 16.1 TEU clearly state that the legislative and budgetary functions are exercised by the European Parliament and the Council ("The European Parliament shall, jointly with the Council, exercise legislative and budgetary functions." and "The Council shall, jointly with the European Parliament, exercise legislative and budgetary functions.", respectively). --Glentamara (talk) 15:21, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
