UK's membership to Customs Union

The statetement is not supported by the footnote, 2.

"Monaco, the United Kingdom, and the British dependencies of Akrotiri and Dhekelia, Guernsey, the Isle of Man and Jersey are integral parts of the EU's customs territory.[2]"

Footnote 2 (https://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/business/calculation-customs-duties/rules-origin/customs-unions_en) only confirms Turkey, Andorra and San Mariona are members of the Customs Union.

Status of Northern Ireland

The new status of Northern Ireland needs to be added. Is it a "non EU participant" or does it only have border controls and regulations that mean that it behaves as a participant in practice.

Is there an agreed term in the new Trade Agreement or the NI Protocol that describes its status that we could use in this page?

From my understanding, it is technically not in the customs union, even for goods. But for goods, in general it behaves as if it were in the CU, and more importantly is also, for most intents and purposes, treated by the EU as though it were in the CU. For instance, if the EU had a 20% tarrif on imports of XYZ, this is levied at the ports in NI, even from Britain. And it's then free to move around the EU Customs territory. But – again, from my understanding – if the goods have documentary proof they were consumed in NI, this tarrif can be refunded, which isn't the case in the rest of the CU. I think just describing it as having "special provisions" is the most accurate, and some very light shading on the map – it isn't accurate to show it as being external in the same way GB is, because it isn't treated that way. - 88.98.194.179 (talk) 11:26, 29 January 2021 (UTC)

New arrangements with Gibraltar

As with Northern Ireland this should be mentioned.

Again it seems to be not a participant. But external customs handled by Frontex, and no barriers to goods at the border with the EU... including Spain.

What's the best term for this arrangement?

Perhaps we should simply wait until there is an actual agreement/treaty? No reason to rush. The situation is different from NI since the special provisions for NI are already in force. --Glentamara (talk) 14:51, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
