The Journal of the American Mathematical Society (JAMS), is a quarterly peer-reviewed mathematical journal published by the American Mathematical Society.
In January 1986, the Council and the Board of Trustees of the American Mathematical Society authorized the founding of a new journal, intended to join the ranks of outstanding journals of the field.[1]. The name Journal of the American Mathematical Society was chosen, and the first issue was January 1988, the centennial year of the society. The initial editors were H. Blaine Lawson. Michael Artin, Richard Melrose, Wilfried Schmid, and Robert Tarjan.[2]
