Firgrove is a small town located 39 kilometres (24.2 mi) south-east of Cape Town and 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) west of Somerset West in the Western Cape province of South Africa.
Transport
[edit]Roads
[edit]Firgrove is situated along the R102 (Old Main Road) between Kuilsrivier to the north-west and Somerset West to the south-east.[2]
Alternatively, Firgrove can also be accessed via the N2 (to Cape Town and Somerset West) at the M9 Macassar Road interchange or via the M9 (Main Road; Macassar Road) connecting Macassar to the south with Heldervue (a suburb of Somerset West) to the east.
Development
[edit]Over the past decade, Firgrove and its surrounding area have undergone significant residential development and urbanisation, transforming what was historically a more semi-rural area into an increasingly suburban residential node.
This growth has been driven by developments including The Huntsman, Acorn Creek Lifestyle Estate and Sitari Country Estate, alongside the nearby Croydon Vineyard Estate, Croydon Olive Estate and Kelderhof Country Village. The City of Cape Town has noted that these developments have contributed to a shift in the area's character from semi-rural to a more urban mixed-use environment.
Acorn Creek alone was approved for hundreds of houses and apartments, while Kelderhof has grown into a substantial residential village, with more than 550 homes completed by 2022. The Huntsman, by Balwin Properties, is estimated to have 1 840 apartments upon completion, with an estimated 3500 residents already as of July 2026.
