Incumbent Democratic U.S. Senator Herb Kohl won re-election to a third term by a margin of 24.5% against John Gillespie. Kohl’s landslide victory was despite Al Gore only narrowly winning Wisconsin over Republican presidential nominee George W. Bush in the concurrent presidential election.
