Rules
Overview
The Draftout ruleset is based on the speedrun.com/mc ruleset (mc.sr/rules) for a Random Seed Glitchless category. Most, but not all speedrun rules apply to Draftout. Some speedrun rules have been modified or nullified for Draftout, and some unique rules have been created for Draftout. Outside of these exceptions, the details of which can be found below, the Draftout rules will mirror the speedrun ruleset.
Draftout staff have wide discretion to enforce the rules however they see fit. Players are encouraged to contact Draftout staff to report players they believe to be cheating, or to ask about unclear rules.
Draftout rules apply to and will be enforced strictly in all Competitive matches. These rules also apply to Quick Play, except where stated otherwise. Unless otherwise stated, players should assume that Lobbies follow the standard ruleset, but Lobby hosts are free to use or enforce any gameplay rules they wish.
Individual exceptions or allowances granted by the speedrun.com/mc leaderboard staff to specific players, tools, or resources that are not codified in mc.sr/rules do not apply for Draftout. To request an individual exception or allowance, contact Draftout staff.

General
- For the purposes of the rules, a match is considered to start as soon as an opposing player is found, and the queue can no longer be left. In Competitive matches, the "match" includes the entire drafting phase.
- In Competitive matches, backseating, coaching, or otherwise giving or receiving advice or information relevant to an ongoing match is not allowed. This can be from a friend in call, stream chat, or anywhere else. One off or inconsequential cases will usually not be punished, but repeated or extreme cases will. Draftout is a game that requires lots of decision making, and players are expected to be making all decisions on their own.
- This rule does not apply to Quick Play.
- Players must not attempt to externally gain info about ongoing matches they are in. For example, stream sniping (watching your opponent's stream during a match) is not allowed. Queue sniping (queuing at a specific time with the intent of matching with a specific player) is allowed but discouraged. Excessive or repeated queue sniping is not allowed. Queue sniping without the intent to normally play the match is not allowed.
- If one player breaks a rule on another player's behalf or to another player's benefit, both players may be considered to have broken the rules. For example, if a friend watches your opponent's stream and gives you info or advice about the match, both you and your friend may be banned.
- Intentionally quitting the world or exiting or crashing the game during a match is not allowed, except in cases where it's practically necessary (e.g. if the game freezes).
- Alternate accounts are not allowed. Likewise, account sharing is not allowed. One player may only use one Minecraft account, and each Minecraft account may only be used by one player. If you wish to change the account you play with, contact Draftout staff.
Mod rules
All speedrun-legal mods (found at mc.sr/mods) are allowed, with the following additions:
- DraftoutThe Draftout mod itself.
- CommandQModFor MacOS. Allows dropping a stack of items with the command key.
- retiNOFor MacOS. Makes Minecraft render at half resolution on Retina displays.
- No Chat RestrictionsRemoves restrictions around the use of multiplayer features, in particular the in-game chat.
- No TelemetryDisables the usage data collection, aka telemetry, introduced in Minecraft 1.18.
- Draftout will prevent the game from launching with a disallowed mod, and this mechanism must not be bypassed. Loading modified or unofficial versions of allowed mods is not allowed.
- Players and external programs must not read Hermes world files during a match, nullifying speedrun rule A.8.15.
- DLL injection rules are unchanged (so Toolscreen is allowed). To request permission to inject a DLL that is not whitelisted, contact Draftout staff.
Macro and Rebind Rules
- The speedrun rebind ruleset (section A.10) are not very clear as written, but the community understanding has solidified over time. Rebind rules will mirror the speedrun rebind rules with no changes, and Draftout players are encouraged to align with the speedrunning community's understanding of the rebind rules.
- Following from the speedrun ruleset, all in game control settings may be used with only a few exceptions. For example, binding one key to multiple controls through the in game settings is allowed. Binding "Attack/Destroy" or "Use Item/Place Block" to a keyboard key to take advantage of repeated inputs is not allowed.
- Resizing the game window to a resolution outside the monitor bounds is not allowed, nullifying speedrun rule A.10.4.b.
External tools and resources
- Players and external programs must not read statistics or advancement files during a match, nullifying speedrun rule A.11.1.
- Four-function calculators must not be used during a match, nullifying speedrun rule A.11.2.
- Speedrun-legal sheets must not be used during a match, nullifying speedrun rule A.11.6.
- Reference sheets containing information that can assist with locating the stronghold using in-world measurements or seed-specific details must not be used during a match, modifying speedrun rules A.11.3, A.11.4, and A.11.8.
- Speedrun-legal tools must not be used during a match, nullifying speedrun rule A.11.7 and modifying speedrun rule A.11.8. Notably, this means that NinjabrainBot is not allowed.
- External tools and resources must not observe or utilize the state of a Draftout board in an ongoing match. For example, a tool that takes an input of some or all of the goals of a board would not be allowed to be used during a match.
- Following from the speedrun ruleset, manually looking up information about an individual goal during a match, or using the Minecraft or Draftout wikis during a match, is allowed.
World Seeds
Following from the speedrun ruleset for Random Seeds, players must not attempt to learn or use the Minecraft world seed during a match.
Glitches
Draftout follows the speedrun ruleset for glitchless categories, with some exceptions. Following from the glitchless speedrun ruleset, only explicitly allowed glitches may be used, and all other glitches are banned.
The following is a complete list of glitches that are allowed:
- Breaking bedrock (nullifying speedrun rule D.1.2.v)
- All listed glitches in speedrun rule D.1.1
The following is an incomplete list of glitches that must not be used:
- X-Ray abuse, including by crawling, camera clipping, and F3+A (D.1.2.c)
- Attribute swapping (D.1.2.m)
- Ghost block abuse (D.1.2.i, D.1.2.j)
- All listed glitches in speedrun rule D.1.2, except for ones previously nullified
Contact Draftout staff to ask for clarification on glitch status, or to request a specific glitch be allowed or disallowed.
