LastOSLinux started as a Linux Mint-based distribution with the Cinnamon desktop and the goal of being a user-friendly alternative to Windows. It changed direction in 2026, with a release based on CachyOS and featuring a vanilla KDE Plasma desktop, the CachyOS Linux kernel and various upstream-inherited utilities and customisations.
To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
Colour scheme:green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

What a great Linux OS. After experiencing some dramas with a dual boot of windows 10 and Linux Mint Zara, whereby the internet connection mysteriously disappeared, I have been testing a number of other distros that might meet my relatively simple needs. To add to the drama, my Windows 10 decided to upgrade to 11 during these testings despite following the procedures to block that from happening (apparently this situation is fairly common, according to many others).
I opted to install LastOS as a sole OS and "...close my windows" permanently. A trouble free experience.
Kudos to the developer of this great OS - for my needs it delivers what I want and avoids the tendency to "over-egg the pudding".
Thanks.
I have been driving this distro for just over a week now, and can say it runs on a nvidia system, that is what I have, without issue or errors. I mean none. Every linux install I have done comes with that one little hipcup or special issue, this one has none.
I was not a mint fan, I was trying to get the fastest OS to run games within nvidia graphics. Nobara did well , little things here and there but overall great, which is my runner up. This LastOSlinux just works and works. The real kicker here is, I get better frames than windows or nobara. It is super stable and runs my games in steam and on my nvidia now. I dual boot so I can compare the windows load with the LastOS load, and run black myth on both and Linux wins. Now the load times are longer, but the running game the linux load wins.
Every system is a little different so, what I am saying without question, is it runs very well on my system and I am a gamer, youtube surfer with a little watching movies online. I am happy to find a Linux that does these things well. Windows is now my backup system thanks to LastOSlinux.
I installed the previous version of this OS, quite enjoyable, however like many distro's targeting newcomer's I found it all too much hand holding. Whilst that may meet others needs, it did not meet mine.
I did like how responsive the system was, especially with KDE, which I have always found to be marginal for speed in other distro's I have tried.
I have suggested this OS to a few friends who are keen to migrate and they have been more than happy with it. Some have even committed which is a great outcome.
For me, I will be doing a migration in the near future, I am at the point now where I intend to rip out all the apps that come with the distro I choose and installing to meet my own needs and preferences. After all that is what Open Source is about, freedom of choice.
If memory serves me correctly the lead is an Australian on that OS, good luck to em.
