Hi, I’m Derin! I write things.

  • If you want to read a web serial about a teenage alien bug’s coming of age, a child trying to save her people’s spaceship fleet from an unknown threat, or one of my short stories described by readers with such lovely reactions as “what the fuck Derin,” “I think there is something very wrong with you,” and “I am never going to be the same again,” you can find them on my website here.

If you want chapter updates, ebooks, a randomly generated drink or sandwich from my friend’s robot, or just to hang out and chat, my discord is here.

If you want access to bonus materials and story voting rights, my ko-fi is here. You can also buy my books if you like.

Have a question about my stories? There’s an FAQ.

This Star Trek fanfic by Paula Smith in 1973 is the origin of the term "Mary Sue"

  • Maru Sue DIED IN HER FIRST OUTING???

  • That usually happens to redshirts

  • I want to read another of my books but if I do I will just be cursed with more story ideas and I have so so many already

  • don't you already have 10 books in the queue

  • nono, that’s only the treegrave universe books. I have multiple books planned in a fantasy universe that I haven’t even started yet.

  • tumblr-style performance art

  • if you're confused about all the pumpkins and ghosts and stuff, it's actually a sort of seasonal harvest festival in parts of the northern hemisphere. yeah, it's kinda weird to think about how it's autumn down there when up here it's spring, haha yeah imagine them all, upside down, and getting colder in october when it's just starting to warm up

and can you imagine, down there it's COLD at christmas, crazy right?

  • that's nonsense, why would it be cold at christmas, it doesn't even make sense? that's a festival about the birth of something??? obviously that happens in summer.

  • Excuse me?! What you guys doing calling the northern hemisphere "down there"?! We're north. That's UP on a map when it's oriented properly.

  • what the fuck are you talking about?

  • like i just can’t. 12 kids in a one-room cabin in tennessee, listened to her mom who sang folk songs while working, started singing in church at 6 years old, released her first single at 13, became so wildly loved and famous and rich and still at every turn found ways to give to the poor, the undereducated, gave away so much wealth she made tangible change in the economy. books, covid vaccines, theme park… sang about women’s rights (and wrongs), sang about worker’s rights, sang about poor people, sang about love. collabed with so many incredible artists. acted in movies, received death threats for being accepting of trans people. never fucking missed. all while being the sparkliest, pinkest, blondest, giggliest. unapologetically

  • with a killer rack

  • I don't see how having a "killer rack" is important here, but the sentiment of the post is the same ❤️

  • begging you to watch any interview she’s ever done because she brought it up constantly and loved to make fun of herself and bring attention to the body she CHOSE. it was part of her art, it was a performance, it was a part of her as much as her music, her wigs, her makeup, her nails, her sense of humour, her rhinestones, her faith, her personality and philantropy. she very openly played with gender and stereotypes the same way drag queens do and never hid it from anyone. and she liked to look hot idk what more to tell you. so yeah she had a killer rack (and a great ass) and don’t forget it

  • I feel like sometimes, people act like she gets an exception for how she looks because of everything else she did.

rather than understanding that how she looked was an important part of her self expression on its own.

in this ever-more puritan world, i think we can maybe stand the celebrate the fact that a renaissance woman and philanthropist who wrote multiples of the most beloved songs of all time also had a great rack and loved it

  • this is the gandalfs big naturals website for crying out loud

Let’s hear it for Dolly’s big artificals

  • In Greek Mythology, Echidna's first child was Orthrus, a two-headed guard dog whom no one cares about because he wasn't important, but then her second child was Cerberus. who was also a guard dog but had a third head and went on to be hugely successful and popular. So that must actually have been really annoying for Orthrus. And then her third child was the hydra, so probably if you were part of that family at the time you'd be thinking that each successive child was going to have more heads, but actually that was the end of it and the others had a more normal amount of heads.

  • I want to read another of my books but if I do I will just be cursed with more story ideas and I have so so many already

  • "just write a little every day" ok but what if i write nothing for 3 weeks and then suddenly type like i’m being hunted by god

  • Okay, I'll go and visit your doll collecting friend IF you can promise me that the dolls aren't secretly people. Don't laugh, I'm not being ridiculous. This is the fourth friend with dolls we've visited and they always turn out to be people. I'm not exaggerating! There was the little kid who shrunk people down and put them in her dollhouse, there was the old woman with the porcelain doll collection that were all haunted with the spirits of dead people, there was your cousin whose action figures came to life -- yes that last one counts! I don't care if the action figures weren't previously human, coming to life as thinking feeling beings makes them people!

Honestly this is getting to be a bit much. If the dolls are gonna be people again, tell me. I'm starting to think I'm not ready for this level of friend visitation commitment. I'm beginning to regret starting to date you so soon after my previous boyfriend mysteriously disappeared on the very day that you started your funko pop collection.

  • your first mistake was dating someone with a Funko Pop collection
