Stuff To Put On Your Website
2026-03-18
about🔗
sometimes people are like, i’d have a website but i don’t know what to even put on it.
so here is a site spec, a taxonomy for personal websites, that you can use to make a website, or to expand your existing website.
pages🔗
these are pages that are updated from time to time, but that might remain static for up to a year or more.
a page listed here typically exists at domain.com/page
i started collecting this list before i learned that https://slashpages.net/ is a thing. their list is more comprehensive but also quite silly taken as a whole.
/about: about the author, or about the project / site
/contact: how to contact the author. MUST HAVE
/now: what you’re up to: https://now.page/
/uses: what you use: https://uses.tech/
/feed: the site feed(s), atom/rss/json/etc
/work: often a resume/cv or a “work with me” page
/blogroll: a list of blogs the author likes to read. this is important for small web discovery!
collections🔗
collections are places where you keep lots of other things. a collection e.g. of blogposts would typically exist at domain.com/blog/1, domain.com/blog/2, etc. or at blog.domain.com/1, blog.domain.com/2, etc.
blog: you know what a blog is
microblog: a blog but tiny! 140 characters or less
links: a linkblog, or a bookmark collection
photos: j-pegs
ideas: an idea blog
conclusion🔗
there, now you know what to put on your website.
go make some awesome stuff why doncha
