Surprise,
a WinBoard chess engine by Sven Schüle. The first version of Surprise was already created in about 1991 on an Atari ST. The private versions 3.x, developed in 2000/2001 were the first versions playing at least acceptable chess. After a three years break, the work on Surprise was continued in 2004, with versions 4.1 as first public release in June 2004, and the final version 4.3 in October 2007 1.
