Michael A. Tsfasman,
a Russian mathematician and researcher at Dobrushin Mathematics Laboratory 1, Institute for Information Transmission Problems, Russian Academy of Sciences, and vice president of the Independent University of Moscow, Russia, also affiliated with at Institut de Mathématiques de Luminy, CNRS, Marseille, France. He holds a M.Sc. in mathematics, in 1976 from Moscow State University, and a Ph.D. in mathematics, 1983 from Leningrad Department of Steklov Institute of Mathematics of the USSR Academy of Sciences (LOMI) 2. His research interests include algebraic geometry with emphasis on its relation to number theory, error-correcting codes, and lattices and sphere packing 3.

Pioneer

During the late 70s and early 80s, Michael Tsfasman worked along with Mikhail Botvinnik, Boris Stilman, Alexander Yudin, and Alexander Reznitskiy on the project Pioneer 4.
