Chantastic Repackaging Strategy

strategy · chantastic · snapshot Mar 9, 2026

TL;DR: The content is not the problem. The wrapper is. Clip the interviews, synthesize the AI lessons, and stop leading with tiny tools.

Highest Leverage Changes

  1. Extract topical clips from LayoffLog interviews — The ideas are probably in there. The packaging is what keeps people from finding them. ( impact: high, effort: medium )
  2. Make one synthesis video from the Cursor and Claude misses — Do not try to save every miss one by one. Roll the lessons up into one clear verdict video. ( impact: high, effort: low )
  3. Stop centering low-volume tools in titles — Tiny tool intersections cap discovery fast unless the story is bigger than the tool. ( impact: high, effort: low )
  4. Retitle the DaVinci workflow video around the broader job to be done — This is the one miss here with a clean search-shaped problem worth fixing in place. ( impact: medium, effort: low )

Context

  • Goal: Get more life out of underperforming recent videos without reshooting everything.
  • Scope: 15 underperformers from the most recent 30 videos, defined as anything below the recent median of 758 views.
  • Working assumption: The voice is fine. The packaging is what is off.

  • Focus: Packaging fixes, not a full-catalog diagnosis

The Pattern

Same guy. Same vibe. Different result.

That usually means packaging.

WorkedDidn’t
”i tried Cursor… and it’s good?” (20,712)“Curser AI chose my TypeScript ORM” (386)
“Please shut up, Cursor…” (3,012)“I wanted Cursor AI to be good with Convex” (649)
“Claude Code: A First Look” (1,639)“I Let Claude Configure Git and GitHub” (314)

Same tools. Same creator voice. Very different outcomes.

The difference is simple: who can find it, and why they would click.

Findings

1. Some of these topics are just too narrow

“Cursor AI + Convex” is two niche tools stacked on top of each other. That audience gets small fast.

“Cursor AI + Python” worked because Python is huge. Convex did not because Convex is not.

That is not a quality judgment. It is just the search ceiling.

2. Some titles do not promise a takeaway

“I gave up on Homebrew” promises a verdict.

“OpenClaw setup was WAY harder than I assumed” mostly promises that something was annoying.

That is the gap.

One title tells me there is a lesson here. The other mostly tells me you had a day.

“Do something you’re GOOOD AT!” has the same problem. It may be true. It may even be good. But it does not tell the viewer what they get.

3. The LayoffLog interviews are conversations, not topics

They average 324 views.

The titles point at the conversation itself, not the thing someone would search for inside it.

“The Unfathomable Rapture of Creating” is a lovely title. It is also not a YouTube search query.

Repackaging by Group

LayoffLog Interviews (5 videos, 324 avg views)

Conversations with interesting people about real things.

The issue is not that they are bad. The issue is that they are invisible.

Strategy: Extract the sharpest 3-5 minute take from each conversation and publish it as a standalone clip with a tool- or topic-focused title.

Do something you’re GOOOD AT!225Probably skip. It is too personal and motivational to repackage for search.

The long-form cuts can live on as members-only “full conversation” content.

The clips do the discovery work. The full cuts do the depth work.

AI Tooling: Cursor and Claude (4 videos, 375 avg views)

These have the right topic and the wrong wrapper.

The Cursor videos that worked had a verdict. These feel more like wandering sessions.

Strategy: Do not try to rescue these one by one. Make a new short video that rolls the lesson up.

One concrete direction: “What Cursor AI is actually good at (and what it’s terrible at)”.

That is the kind of title that carries a verdict. It can point back to the original videos as receipts.

Convex Content (1 video, 633 views)

“I have the Convex CRUD” is actually the best-performing Convex video here.

So the issue is not really execution. It is the topic ceiling.

Strategy: Stop making Convex-specific videos.

If Convex shows up in a project, make the video about the thing that got built. Let the tool serve the story.

How I Edit Tech Screencasts Using DaVinci Resolve29913:55
How to Create Content FASTER (and lazier)2595:59

“How I Edit Tech Screencasts Using DaVinci Resolve” should probably do better than it has.

It has a real job to be done in it.

The problem may be that “DaVinci Resolve + tech screencasts” is still narrower than the bigger search people are actually using.

Strategy: Retitle and re-thumbnail it if possible, or remake it tighter.

“My entire YouTube editing workflow (DaVinci Resolve)” is broader, clearer, and still honest.

“How to Create Content FASTER” is too generic.

No tool. No method. No clear takeaway.

Skip it.

These are off-topic for the core audience, and that is okay.

Not everything has to be growth content.

These feel more like personal expression or community glue than discovery assets.

OpenClaw setup was WAY harder than I assumed29119:06

OpenClaw just does not have the search volume.

The “this setup fought me” format can work. It just works better when the tool is something people have already heard of.

Recommendations

1. Extract short clips from LayoffLog conversations

This is the cleanest rescue move in the set.

You do not need to rebuild the interviews. You need to expose the sharpest 3-5 minutes inside them.

2. Make one synthesis video from the Cursor struggles

This is probably the fastest high-return move.

A verdict video gives all of those wandering sessions a point.

3. Retitle or repackage the DaVinci workflow video

This is the one miss here that still maps cleanly to a recognizable search problem.

It is worth fixing in place.

4. Stop making tool-specific videos for low-volume tools

This is not just a repair move. It is how you stop creating the same problem again.

5. Move full conversations to members-only where appropriate

If the clips do discovery, the full conversations do not need to carry that burden anymore.

They can just be the deeper thing.

Core Insight

These are not bad videos.

They are good ideas wearing the wrong shirt.

Most of the fix is not “shoot it again.”

It is:

  • retitle it
  • cut it shorter
  • or roll the lesson into something people would actually search for
