Description
would be cool to give members a quota & ability to use some of our disk storage, esp considering the amount of both hooked up & laying about multi-tb hard drives (and how often folks are willing to give us more)
we have 16tb total of free space, but maybe half? of that is SSD space which is a bit more valuable so conservatively we have maybe 5tb of spinning rust. Let people have 50gb of storage for whatever?
Could be nextcloud, unix dirs, ipfs re-pinner. maybe a copyparty deploy?
Either way, would be nice to have this ability
additionally, does enforcement even need to be a v0 task? Could we get away with just letting folks upload + maybe some instrumentation/reporting in case someone decided to upload all of the internet somewhere.
oh this has said nothing about reliability, rn all of our storage is operating in a very dangerous state of having no backups and on a slightly under-maintained ceph cluster. as long as no one sneezes on it it's fine but there's a real danger of losing nodes w/ data or losing the entire cluster if no one knows how to bring it back.
if we do this we absolutely need to do proper messaging that this is the case and if you want to help it not be the case you need to:
1) learn about ceph
2) help us start doing off-site backups somewhere
