Description (last modified by )
its owner ("A B" in the signal chat) has messaged /dev/hack general, saying they're hoping to repurpose it soon; they didn't give a hard deadline, but said they'd like it in a week
priority 1 is getting data backed up and maybe wiped off the device before it gets taken away. ideally, nobody should be storing anything of note on there, but i think little bits of little projects jave ended up on that drive over time, and the OS configuration has a fair amount of ricing/customization work put into it as well.
priority 2 is finding a device to replace it. it might be worth it to try and get another surface laptop -- this one has been our most-used public computer in the space. contrary to popular belief, i'd be the last person to buy a new surface device, but we can probably get one used or refurbished for cheap. re-pc, 3R, and computer surplus, all tend to have one or two in stock -- i can try calling around for inventory. there are, of course, also lots of online options.
alternatively, if we want to stick with this device and avoid the hassle, we could talk to its owner about purchasing it from them.
