first sketches
these are the first couple sketches that led me to start this project log! they're just videos i took with my phone of the tape i recorded on playing back out of the P.A.
this very first one it was soo hot in the garage the day i recorded it, and i was playing a little secondary guitar that i have that has a little trouble holding its tuning even under more normal conditions, and i just remember it felt like the guitar was melting in my hands. it felt good ! thats the energy i want to go in to this with ... melting thawing flowing
this one i spent a little longer on, though its still quite sketchy especially through the middle. i started with just a drum part for structure and then made up the instrument parts as i was adding them, which is an interesting inversion for me since i've only just been getting properly into drumset in the past year, and i've mostly composed this kind of music more "top-down" songwriter style like sitting at a guitar with a notebook.
i also bounced the drums and bass down to one track (mostly to test the process out, i think it sounds good!) and recorded three guitar tracks - i was gonna try to do two kind of noodly melodic single-note layers, but they just melted into the rhythm guitar track and muddied it and i wound up leaving them quite quiet. im kind of testing a minimal setup in there and just using my bass amp for everything, and i like how it sounds for sketching, but i think i'll need to at least switch a pedal and twist some knobs to get the intelligibility i want between that many layers
so yea ! im not sure totally where im going with this, but its starting to feel like a little bit of a thing. and its just the sort of iterative "post a sketch" project i was hoping to log with the logs. i made a cute little area for myself to sit and work and play. thanks for listening :)
