tascam portastudio 424
a tascam portastudio 424 4-track tape cassette recorder. it was set up in the garage for like a year, and then more recently i moved it over to this practice space im renting with some friends. agnes gave it to me after she found it neglected somewhere and i soldered a 9v battery connector on where the power jack was missing and it spun right up. i freakin adore these things, layering sound on here feels like painting or something. so texture, going over and covering and erasing and reinforcing..
im using it for the cassette tapes project, in tandem with Some Mixer (a behringer xenyx X1204USB, which also provides fx for the vocals) with mic preamps that are a little cleaner and easier to plug stuff into (just TRS jacks on the tape machine baby.) years before, a very similar rig featuring eric's portastudio was employed for the recording of Wolf's Milk and all the rest of the tape club stuff. long live tapes damnit !
