There are many test format changes, including:

• The Enhanced ACT is 125 minutes (about 2 hours) instead of ~195 minutes. Similar to the digital SAT, pacing is adjusted accordingly.
• Each section has fewer questions overall, so you actually get more time per question. That means in the ACT English & Reading sections, you can spend extra seconds reading carefully and eliminating answers.
• In the new ACT math section, there are now four answer options rather than five.
• The ACT Science section is now completely optional (and the Writing section continues to be optional). You can choose the ACT Core (English, Math, Reading) or add on Science/Writing sections of the ACT, depending on your goals. The Science test can be a great addition if you're applying to a STEM college.
• Students can choose between taking the Enhanced ACT as a paper test or digitally.

Yes. ACT superscoring averages your best section scores across multiple test dates into one composite, and ACT calculates it automatically once you've tested twice, no extra request needed. As of the 2025 Enhanced ACT changes, that composite draws only from English, Math, and Reading; Science is now reported as a separate score rather than folded into the composite.

Superscoring helps because it lets your strongest sitting in each section count. Not every college superscores, but the number that do keeps growing, and even schools that don't will still receive your individual scores from each attempt to review under their own policy. Research the specific superscore policy at each school you're applying to before deciding how many times to retest.

There is no official limit on how many times you can take the ACT, but most students test twice or three times. ACT recommends students take the test at least twice, and many counselors suggest stopping around three attempts when score gains tend to plateau.
