A note from Bob:
Well, we bought a house! And while I'm still busy dealing with that and an upcoming move, I've been feeling a bit more inspired to cover the 11ty beat again.
THIS JUST IN: No sooner than I thought I had put this issue to bed, I checked my GitHub email folder to find a message titled:
Pre-release v4.0.0-alpha.8 - Build Awesome v4.0.0-alpha.8
And here are the release notes.
In other news, on the Eleventy Discord front, Zach made an announcement. Rather than paraphrase, I'll just drop it here (the bold emphasis is mine).
I did want to make a small announcement here that soon you’ll see some news about the Web Awesome Discord Server pivoting to include Font and Build Awesome channels (an Awesome Discord Server, if you will). Notably the Build Awesome channels will be primarily to facilitate the Kickstarter rewards for sponsors.
Importantly, as this announcement rolls out: the Eleventy (11ty) Discord Server is not going anywhere. This is a special community that folks requested the project create years and years ago and have also tended and gardened independent from me (you may remember that I resisted this 😅 as I was not and still am not a big Discord person). The Eleventy Discord is a community resource and I expect that it will continue on as such if folks want to continue to participate here!
1. That said, if you’re interested in Build Awesome and the larger Awesomeverse of projects, you may also want to join the Web Awesome Discord Server (soon to be renamed).
2. We do have room if folks would like to pitch in with the Eleventy Server’s Moderator role (here, on this server): if folks would like to participate or nominate someone that is very active already, please DM me!
I continue to be bullish on Eleventy and the Discord community is really great. Any and all questions can be answered and there are no wrong questions...only occasional wrong answers...just kidding.
Highlights
OK > F it. Simon Cox taught me about the Open Knowledge Format (OKF) this week. He wrote a post describing how to Publish an OKF bundle with 11ty. I sifted through it, but haven't given it the deep dive it deserves. There's a lot there, so give it a read.
Return of the Fury. fLaMEd, i.e., Flamed Fury, returns with a complete rundown on how to Create A Static Site Using 11ty & Deploy to Neocities (2026 Refresh). If you're new to Eleventy or new to Neocities hosting for Eleventy, this is a great place to start.
So many words. Nathan Bottomley, a word counter himself, takes those podcast words...and counts them for us in Adding a transcript word count to your podcast About page.
Yozo lightbox. Shiv J.M. makes use of the Yozo web components library to bring a lightbox to the images on his site in My Images Are Now Pretty Lit. And Yozo was created by one of the Discord server's most helpful members, vrugtehagel, so it's great to see it in action.
PHP is so random. Jens Oliver Meiert shows us How to Provide a “Random Post” Feature With Eleventy and PHP.
Find that Shiv. Shiv J.M. also brings us Find That Page where he replaced what was an ineffective DuckDuckGo search with Pagefind, one of the community's favorite search libraries.
