We couldn’t resist setting a few new speed courses while traveling through the incredible country of Guatemala, the 14th country in Apex Speed Run! Our time here was short but fulfilling, and the natural and architectural beauty left us wanting to return soon.

• Antigua Speed Run, Antigua Guatemala — A curvy, up/down route along the iconic Cerro de la Cruz with epic views of volcanoes and the city below.

• Atitlán Speed Run, Panajachel — A short but challenging uphill course with more amazing views of the lake and surrounding volcanoes.

• Obelisco Speed Run, Guatemala City — Our only local community session of the trip featuring a long, sprinty course with big jumps, drops, and climb-ups baked in.

We didn’t know Javi was coming to run this course but we’re grateful he did! Javi is the first Guatemalan player to own an ASR course record and what’s even more impressive is that he smoked us all in sandals because he forgot his shoes 😂

⭐️ Featured courses

1. Antigua Speed Run, Antigua Guatemala 🇬🇹 🟢 ➕

Due to time constraints and crowds, this original Guatemala speed run took us 3 visits to finalize. We woke up at 6 am on our last day and made it happen right around sunrise! If you visit, warm up with a short hike up the hill and take in the breathtaking views. If you’re lucky, you’ll find friendly doggos at the top! We recommend running the course early in the day because it gets crowded at sunset.

2. Obelisco Speed Run, Guatemala City 🇬🇹 🔵

We changed our plans to spend an extra day in Guatemala City, and we’re so glad we did! We accidentally booked an Airbnb right next to 1 of the best training spots in the city, Parque Las Americas. After scouting the full length of the park, we settled on the iconic Plaza Obelisco for our speed run the next day. Javi took the top time for now, but whoever unlocks the big jump in the first half of the course will most likely set the new course record.

3. Atitlán Speed Run, Panajachel 🇬🇹 🔵 ➖

It required another early start to make this course happen because it can get busy with families enjoying the views, people meeting up for tours, and workers prepping for a busy day on the lake. Unfortunately, we needed another 20-30 minutes to be fully satisfied with our runs, which means whoever runs it next could beat our times and level up our beta in a few clever ways!
