My moon, tonight you seem so caring, I think you sense my intentions; you stay there, waiting for me! Tonight, do you presume to eavesdrop on my worries? I’m sorry, I’m annoyed, bothered that you have to listen to my thoughts, to my hesitations. You have to understand the will that comes from my certainty: my faith is undeniable, made real in my good intentions. It pains me to look at my world without getting my hands dirty. There is nothing good around me… We are content simply to deplore and point out the mistakes of others with such arrogance. And our attitude, with no conscience of its own, needs to be cleansed!

My moon, that gaze of yours fixed on me… unsettles me a little. But there is something I would like to ask you: do you believe it is possible not to climb onto a pedestal to judge others? Try to cast your light upon this world, so it may rediscover what it means to coexist with dignity. This is where I stand: to have the courage to do what has never been done, to say what has never been said; ready to face a new story of life! Meanwhile, without fooling myself, I want to hope I won’t lose myself within my soul, only entrust you with my desire: you are my true certainty.

My moon, joyful is your light, give hope to my words, make them more serene, offer them… light; delicate; so that, at last, my intent may be understood. The tenderness in your heart is part of us, O radiant, magical moon! Author’s note My Moon comes from a voice of mine from nearly ten years ago. I was already looking at the world with questions I still carry with me: how easily we judge others, how difficult it is to look at the world around us without placing ourselves above others, and whether hope can remain when we are no longer willing to deceive ourselves. The moon became the presence I could speak to. It listens, watches, and casts its light without answering. Perhaps that is why I turned to it. Not to ask for an answer, but to entrust it with a hope: that we might learn to look at one another without needing a pedestal from which to judge. — Antonio Castellaneta
