Approximately 200,000 BCE, in a cave in what is now called the Carpathian Mountains, an immortal being finds itself in a body not wholly human and not wholly its true self—an alien from another kind of world, not carbon based but one of light and sound. It must learn to adapt its form to that of one of the archaic humanoid species, eventually choosing homo sapiens for their burgeoning ability to think abstractly. It deepest desire is to return home but since taking on human form, has lost its memory of the return path, and so it seeks to end its existence hoping such an action will bring the desired result. But how does an immortal being succumb to death?
The story is loosely based on the vampire mythology, but instead of blood, this immortal being needs the "light" from humans to sustain it. Some say it steals the soul but, in truth, it subsumes the "intelligence" living behind the individual identity (the personality) the world sees. After subsumption, the victim's personality becomes aware, without its creator, life is empty and without meaning and, from despair and hopelessness, goes mad and destroys itself.
The story will be comprised of three novels. The first, The Jinn of Gabriel, is about the immortal being's (Gabriel's) inherent nature, and its condition during the industrial and scientific revolution just before the two 20th century's world wars. All the principal characters are introduced and developed, concluding with a gathering of his five companions and his only love, Ayisha, who align with Gabriel's purpose to end its immortal existence on Earth.
At this time, I have completed my ninth draft and waiting on financing to work with a developmental editor, line editor and a copy editor.
The second book, The Theater of Mind, I have completed about 75% (with a short story about its ending, making it easier to complete).
The third book, with a working title, The Light of Home, has the basic chapters outlined with many short stories interspersed between the prologue and epilogue which will help me to tie all the loose ends formed by the first two books.
