A NOTE ON STYLE · A NOTE ON STYLE

updated 2026

I took a break from fashion while traveling in March. I wore a uniform almost every day, and if you follow me on Instagram, you probably saw the look: jeans, sweaters, sneakers and boots, finished with patterned scarves, a rotation of coats, and a black cashmere beanie I wore on repeat. I only wish I’d packed it in a few more colors. Committing to a uniform made getting dressed a breeze.

Even though I wasn’t focused on my own outfits, I still enjoyed noticing what everyone else was wearing. Spotting stylish women on the streets and beautifully curated window displays provided plenty of inspiration to file away for later.

For starters, my favorite looks were simple monochromatic outfits punctuated with an unexpected color. A blue bag, orange scarf, or green coat added sophistication to an otherwise all-black outfit. But it was burgundy that felt the freshest to me, especially in bags and shoes. Loose white or ivory jeans paired with black boots and a slouchy knit looked equally chic. Jeans in general were relaxed, either cropped to reveal a sock or long enough to break over the shoe. A classic look I’ll never tire of was a navy blazer with dark jeans, a crossbody bag, and loafers, often finished with socks that were either tonal or a bright pop of color. For evenings when denim felt too casual, the palette remained much the same, with the addition of a silk blouse or metallic knit paired with tailored high-waisted trousers or a midi skirt, a bold earring, and a swipe of red lipstick.

For those asking what to pack for upcoming trips to Paris and beyond, the looks described above can be recreated at any price point and worn throughout spring and well into fall.

This is a follow up to a previous post on Style Inspiration Abroad. The classic trio I described – jeans, loafers and a navy blazer – resonated with many of you so I’m furthering the discussion taking that look though spring and beyond with a focus on the navy blazer. In June last year, we traveled to Paris and I was grateful to have a blazer with me fo…

ANOTHER PACKING STORY

My Italy packing post was very specific to a certain type of vacation. It was specifically summer, coastal, Italy-focused, and it quickly became a favorite. I loved the colors, prints, and casual approach to getting dressed, where everything just worked together without much thought. But would I pack the same way for other trips? Probably not. I’d most …
