I got to see just part of the National Art Gallery in the Bahamas when we were in Nassau for a brief period last month. Here are my favorite pieces of what was on display when we visited. It’s a beautiful place and quite close to the big rum distillery and the historic Graycliff Hotel, where we had lunch, but on a different day.
The first thing that greets you as you walk up is a wonderful sculpture, “Queen of the Junkanoo” by Nick Austin.
The Museum is an old Villa that was originally built by civic leader, Sir William Doyle.
This mural marks where the “Art Park” outside begins that we didn’t realize we missed, so we’ll have to tour it the next time we’re there.
Apologies for the glare, but I tried all sorts of angles and it just didn’t go away.

There was also a wonderful installation up on the 2nd floor in the ballroom, here’s the video I shot. It was interactive with spots marked on the floor where the lighting and music would change. Much of the material used in it was recycled, according to one of the workers there.
