It really wasn’t such a big show that I wasn’t chosen for, just a UMVA show in a coffee shop up in Camden. But I was totally surprised as I thought I had the perfect pieces for it! But the Juror didn’t think so. However, I did get this notice from the folks in Massachusetts (The Biennial Project Exhibition) who faithfully travel to the Venice Biennale and present videos of work they want to see in that exhibit, which included one of the pieces that was rejected for the Camden show !!
Dancer Squared is a digital collage (14 x 11, archival ink on gallery wrapped canvas) based on Holga photos that I shot many years ago during a workshop. And it’s making me realize how much I loved shooting Holga even though you have to ship the old school 120 film off to be developed. Then I scan them at high resolution to use for digital purposes.
Then a day later I get this email: Curator Claudia Sohrens has selected your work, and we are honored to include it in this collective tapestry of images supporting the production of the PWP documentary, Women of Vision: 50 Years of Empowering Women in Photography.

This was shot last year when I was out in North Adams, Mass at MASS MOCA. I was intrigued by this fluffy, yet sharp cactus.
And I’m finally getting more work up on the website so check it out. I need to get that photo up there as well as some others that my new art agent is asking me to get up and since she’s helping me get this out into the world, I’d better focus on that next.
I think I’ve found the emotional space to do that now, since my niece and her daughter are safely back in this country now from Bahrain, where she was working. WHEW… we were sweating bullets along with her and her parents and other family members. I pray this illegal and unnecessary war ends soon. Sane Americans are angry that lives are being lost.
