Apologies to the late Marshall Dodge (1935–1982) and Bob Bryan (1931–2018), who developed “Bert & I”. I grew up listening to these Maine humorists who coined that phrase, and once you start going to the easternmost town in Maine, Lubec, it just starts going round in your head. Here’s a clip from their first album I think.
Thanks for reading Ann's Eclectric World! This post is public so feel free to share it.
Recently the hubs and I needed to get out of town for a bit and we decided to explore. We ended up staying in Machais, where we discovered the Machias Arts Center run by the Arts Council out there… here’s a few photos and I hope that if you’re out that way, you stop in and find something you love. They are so lucky to have the space where they can hold workshops and art shows!
Of course it’s not a tourist trap, it’s wonderful art and cards and prints. We should have stopped at this place, other than the side of the road so I could take a photo, but we ended up taking a different route back to explore some of the Schoodic Penninsula
Very clever with making it look like a lobsta trap. But we did do a touristy thing in that we took a boat trip out into the Bay of Fundy, where we observed how the ocean makes whirlpools in an area called The Old Sow. Here’s a navigation map of the area.
It was difficult to get a shot with my phone, but here’s what we saw on the way to see them. We were very close to Roosevelt Campobello International Park, but maybe we’ll get out there the next time we want to go Downeast.
Then we came back via the scenic drive of the other part of Acadia National Park, the Schoodic Penninsula, which was not crowded at all. If Acadia is too touristy for you, check out this part of the park. I had to take a photo of my dear hubby with his trombone… worthy of an album cover, eh?
And speaking of cover art for music, I was delighted when my friend Tom Kiebzak wanted to use my photograph for his new tune on Bandcamp.
Let’s hope tomorrow’s tide brings glad tidings for us all!
