What if thriving is an act of defiant liberation?

Beloveds,

We shared a beautiful listening circle yesterday on the topic of surviving vs thriving. Thank you so much to those of you who were able to join us. I’m still simmering with the wisdom that arose in our shared space.

As someone who has danced with chronic/mystery illness for many years, I think a lot about thriving, especially in times when I don’t feel like I’m physically thriving.

Failure to thrive can very often be tied to early life trauma and the beliefs we inherit around our deservingness of health, vitality, financial stability, work we truly love, or relationships and creativity that light us up.

I know from personal experience how deep these false beliefs go. I also hold a firm belief in the power of energy medicine to clear the lies from your neural network/unconscious mind/body and replace past programming with new beliefs that support havingness and the co-creation of a life that serves your well-being.

Even so, there’s no silver bullet and energy medicine hits a wall unless and until each one of us is ready to make new choices, act in new ways, and build the neural networks that support what we wish to create in our lives.

I always say that energy medicine opens a door you didn’t know was there, but you still have to do the brave work of walking through it into the unknown. (We also need to do nervous system work to create the capacity for that change, but that is a huge topic for another day!)

In our circle yesterday I asked this one simple question: Are you allowed to thrive?

Share

It turned into a round of sharing on what thriving even means, especially in chaotic and unruly times as these.

In the video below, I share how in some parts of life, you may be thriving while you can be in a “winter” season in another part of life. We aren’t only one thing all the time. We’re complicated little onions. Sometimes those onions make us cry, other times not.

My contemplation this morning led me to a place I return to again and again. In a social and political climate that is engineered to separate us, create the conditions to dehumanize us (so that we more easily dehumanize others), and create despair, our choice to thrive becomes a defiant act of liberation.

I go into much greater depth in the video below. Give it a listen and let me know where in your life you are currently thriving and where your future thriving (no matter what the world throws your way) becomes a liberatory act.

The Spirit notes in today’s episode:

  • You may be thriving in one area of life and only surviving in another (how to tell)

  • Energy medicine as a pathway to thriving (vs therapy)

  • Is culture designed right now to keep us from thriving?

  • If so, then is your thriving a defiant and radical act of liberation?

  • How the outer world might change if all of us remembered this one thing

If you’re ready to thrive in entirely new ways and are looking for a guide to get you there, let’s talk. I’ve got some truly powerful energy medicine modalities in my toolkit that can support your change processes. Plus, my spiritual counsel has been described as the mirror that lets you see yourself as love, as divinity - even when you cannot see it for yourself. Which is exactly why we are not meant to do any of this alone.

P.S. snakes = change

I’ve written a lot about snake medicine. It is the medicine of death and rebirth, of massive transformation. I’ve walked with this medicine since childhood, only fully realizing it’s life-changing power in the last five years. There’s a reason most people are afraid of snakes. This kind of transformation can feel frightening. No one teaches us how to really work with it, either.

The snake above was actually more afraid than we were. It coiled up, hissed like crazy and flicked its tail to make a rattling noise. It pretended to be a venomous rattlesnake, rather than the harmless bull snake it is. The Tunes remained cautiously curious and kept a respectful distance.

I’ve seen a lot of snakes over the past few weeks. They always remind me to contemplate change and transformation, both in my own life and on the planet overall.

We’re in a time of powerful transformation that is asking us to shed our collective skin, to forget what we thought we knew about being human, to embrace the radical unknown. When a snake moults (sheds its skin), it is actually incredibly vulnerable. It can’t see very well, as there are scales over the eyes that get cloudy before being shed as well. It kind of feels like that for us right now; we can’t see very clearly, we’re outgrowing the place we’ve been and what gets revealed will feel tender. But unlike the snake, we’re not exactly sure what we’ll look like when we emerge. But that’s entirely okay. Hang in there, remember you’re not alone.
