建议

我意识到，自己对一些话题感到很不耐心。

我的不耐心基于这个想法：首先不要伤害。

一个话题是：未经请求的建议。

为什么这让我不耐心？

当一个人说：“你需要什么，什么”，或者“你必须什么，什么”，背后的意思是：“因为你做得不对。” 那可能伤害别人。

有时候一个人的建议只是因为我说的或者我做的让另一个人不舒服。他说他的建议是为我好。但是，他是想改变我，让他感到更舒服。其实，他的建议是为他自己好。

人渴望被看到、被听到、被理解，被了解真实的自我。人渴望在共同点上，一起生活在共享的现实之中。

改变别人的建议是在说一个人真实的自我不被接受。建议说我们不在同一个地方。这样可能让这个人受到很深的伤害。

I have become aware that I feel impatient about a few topics.

My impatience is based on this idea: First, do no harm.

One topic is unsolicited advice.

Why does unsolicited advice make me feel impatient?

When someone says, “You need to…,” or “You must…,” the unspoken meaning is: “Because you are doing it wrong.” Hearing that feels hurtful.

Often, people give advice because something someone said or did made them feel uncomfortable. They say their advice is for the person’s own good. But they are trying to change the other person so they can feel more comfortable. Actually, their advice is to make themselves feel better.

I believe people long to be seen, heard, understood, and known as their true selves. They long to belong to a shared reality on common ground.

Changing-making advice says a person’s true self is not acceptable as it is. Advice says we are not in the same place. This can cause people deep pain.

Microstories 微故事 are short works written at the intermediate level in two versions, one in Simplified Chinese characters and one in English. Microstories 微故事 are written by Anne 安妮 Giles and edited by 侯慧颖 Hóu Huìyǐng “Mary.”

Some words are repeated in the stories in hopes of offering language learners the 3 to 17 exposures (number of times a learner encounters a word in different contexts) that may be needed to learn a new word.

Microstories 微故事 may serve as short reading and discussion texts for busy adult language learners of Simplified Chinese Characters and/or English.
