If Peace Was a Person

peace were a person,

would she wear a bonnet

to cover her eyes

hiding truth from destruction?

seeking warmth over mercy,

consequence over truth?

or would he stand up

and fight to preserve

what was already broken?

listening to fear,

keeping whats ‘ours’

instead of OURS

peace was a person,

would they walk on by,

taking high road to the low?

‘keep the peace’

silence of tongue?

or say, i am enough,

a pillar for change?

walking forward,

shoulders up, Ruby Bridges,

building bridges by drawing heart

across a divided country

with discouraged hearts?

peace was a person,

would she spread kindness

against a right to bear violence

no matter the kill?

or would he say,

enough’s enough,

action over inaction,

time for a new day,

to grow flowers, seed hope

hug winter, vote kindly,

grabbing a chance

to be more than…

this

only, this…

or,

it is too late?
