I’m continuing to write more of the story in Jack’s Party, where Ralph is facing some unexpected feelings about inviting his new boyfriend Alec home when it's the first time a date has stayed over since his bereavement. But he’s determined to step into this potential new stage of his life with courage and positivity. The BEST news, however, is that between us, Ralph & I have reached the 40,000 word marker in our story, go us!

I’m waiting for The Dangerous Delaneys and Me and also Martin and The Wolf to go through the ACX Audible process, which seems to be very long-drawn-out at the moment, hey ho. Still, 99% of a writer’s life is spent simply waiting (mainly for things that never happen …) so I should be used to this!

This week I’ve read Longbourn by Jo Baker: this is a tour-de-force of a novel and I absolutely loved it. The servants' eye view of all the events in Austen's Pride and Prejudice is superbly written and I loved Sarah, the housemaid and main character here. The twists and turns of the plot are excellent and the cast of below-stairs characters is second to none. I particularly loved Mrs Hill the housekeeper, whose story arc is almost as fabulous as Sarah's own. The whole of life is here: slow-burn romance, misunderstandings, tragedy and joy. Yes, I might have shortened the section where the wonderful James remembers his time as a soldier, as the story belongs to Longbourn, but this is still a wonderful read with a truly brilliant ending. Highly recommended.

I’ve also read Salad on the Side (Real Werewolves Don't Eat Meat 1) by Karenna Colcroft: this is a very quirky and exciting addition to the MM werewolf romance genre. I really loved Kyle and his sarcasm, as well as his determination to remain vegan at all costs, much to his new pack's annoyance. I thought the push and pull of Kyle's relationship with pack leader Tobias was great, and the spark & developing relationship between them was well portrayed. I also loved how argumentative the pack actually is, and how many secrets and lies they are hiding. There's a great plot line and lots of adventure too. A great start to this series.
