This is the last episode of the first season of this podcast. I want to leave you with a little nudge to notice moments that might slip by if you’re not paying attention — the photos you’ll look back on and treasure, even if they’re imperfect.

I often hear people say, “I wish I had taken more photos when…(fill in the blank)” and it’s usually about the small, ordinary moments. Not a big holiday, not a perfect event, but the last time of breastfeeding - at the time it’s just another feed, when it’s gone, it gains in value.

Or it’s the light catching a plant on your windowsill in the house you started a life chapter that’s now only a memory.

Or your child’s messy little hands in dough while baking, remembered at a time when the teenager barely spends time at home anymore.

The truth is, the photos we regret not taking aren’t usually the grand, posed ones — they’re the everyday slices of life that tell the story of how life actually felt.

So, here’s a little guide for noticing those moments:

It might be a favourite mug on the counter, the way sunlight spills across your bed in the morning, or the way someone laughs at a private joke. These are the things you’ll forget in a week, a month, or a year, but a photo will bring them back in an instant.

Life moves fast. Kids grow, pets age, seasons shift. The things that feel ordinary today might be gone tomorrow. Try photographing things that are changing — a plant sprouting new leaves, a toddler’s tiny shoes, the frost on your car in winter. These images hold the story of life in motion and the feelings that come with it.

It doesn’t have to be pretty or perfect. Maybe it’s a messy dinner, a cozy corner of your home, or a candlelit moment that makes you feel calm. These photos are little treasures for your future self.

The best moments often happen when you least expect them. Grab your phone or camera and just capture the feeling. Imperfect photos can be the most evocative — they remind you of the texture, the chaos, and the beauty of real life. Don’t try to art-direct your life!

Remember: the goal isn’t to create Instagram-worthy images. It’s to collect memories, to create a visual diary of your life as it really is — messy, bright, joyful, fleeting.

As we wrap up this season, I hope you take a few minutes today — or tomorrow, or next week — to notice and photograph something small, ordinary, and fleeting. One photo can capture more than you realise. One photo can take you back to a feeling you thought was gone.

Thank you for joining me this season. I hope these episodes have given you a little nudge to look closer, notice more, and document your life — one imperfect, beautiful photo at a time.

For now, this was the last podcast episode. I will continue writing here on substack and maybe in a few months, I’ll come back to the audio form of these stories again.
