Fresh from the Shelf

Welcome to Fresh From the Shelf, my weekly roundup of new releases. Every Tuesday, I'll share a selection of books hitting shelves that day—some I've already read, some I'm currently reading, and some I'm eagerly anticipating. Think of it as a peek into my reading life, complete with early impressions, recommendations, and a few bookish musings along the way. I’m still reading this- I put it down to read a couple of ARCS that were due. It’s really good, so hopefully I’ll have it read before the week is out.

I haven’t started it yet, but it’s still in my currently reading folder on my Kindle. I will be reading this soon.

I’ve only read one Courtney Walsh book (I know…I’m shocked too) but I really loved it. I love romance in all forms, but I’ve really wanted to start reading novels that feature characters closer to my age. Brighter than Before has such a premise and I am here for it!

Shop Girl’s Guide to Wooing a Lord is the first in a new series (The Heiress Hunters) by Shana Galen. This will be my first book by her, but it sounds intriguing! I’m a sucker for class warfare in regency romances, and this promises a Robin Hood-type thief. I’m really looking forward to reading it!

My three standout picks this week are The Reimagining of Thornwood House by Jaleigh Johnson, The Summer Girlfriend by Kristina Forest, and This Immortal Heart by Jennifer Saint. Thornwood is a cozy fantasy and the first in a series. What grabbed my attention is that it is a magic walking house. I really want to see how that goes!

The Summer Girlfriend is also the first in a series and involves what is probably my favorite romance trope- fake dating. I can’t wait to see how the chemistry is since the main girl is hired to be a fake girlfriend. Sounds like a perfect summer read!

This Immortal Heart is a fantasy retelling of Aphrodite. I love Greek mythology and this should be a great novel!

I have two books this week that I’m going to put off for just a little while. The first one The Mail-Order Viscountess I will be reading for this substack (watch for it July 1). It has two books before it in the series, so I’m going to read them first. The second one The Brave and the Fearless is also in a series, so I’m going to read the book before it first. (Sidenote- I am one of those people who hate to read series out of order, even if they are standalones.)

There are a few other books coming out today that I’ve got my eye on, but may wait on:

1. The Missed Connection by Tia Williams

2. We Hexed the Moon by Mollyhall Seeley

3. Daughters of the Sun and Moon by Lisa See
