Lindsay found me through one sentence I’d written. People who can feed themselves cannot be ruled. She wanted to know who writes a line like that, so she sat me down to talk.
We didn’t plan where it would go. It went everywhere in a good way. The heat that killed the old oaks on my land in a single afternoon, leaves still green but dead to the touch. The ten million farm animals gone in three weeks that barely made the news. A city with forty-eight hours of food between it and hunger. And the small green plants that came up anyway, no water, roots going down forty feet, quietly teaching me what to grow next.
The old people had a name for this time. “The party is over.” Not said to frighten anyone. Said to wake us, while there’s still a window.
What you’ll carry away from this one:
How to read the land as your first teacher. Not the book, not the method. The plant that survived the drought is trying to tell you something. Observation and curiosity are the oldest skills, and you already have them buried in you.
Why your healing was never just yours. In the old villages there was no word for mine. Your work, your grief, your medicine belong to the community and the more-than-human family. That single reframe lifts a weight most of us have been carrying alone.
How to build resilience the way a forest does. Diversity, community, exchange. Whether it’s your water, your food, or your income, one thread means one cut away from collapse. The land has been teaching this for millions of years.
The difference between spiritual bypass and grounded practice. Both hands in the soil and eyes on the stars. Prayer and preparation. Why the medicine people farm first, and only then hold ceremony.
How to turn the dread in your body into purpose. That anxiety you feel is not only yours. It’s the earth moving through you. Reoriented, it becomes devotion, direction, sacred work that actually meets the time we’re in.
Want to support this work, the rewilding, the ones who consciously walk this path?
Watch it if the ground under your feet has been asking you something you haven’t wanted to hear and share it widely!
