When Your Child's Tantrum Becomes Your Best Spiritual Teacher

Every time your young child acts out, they’re not being difficult - they’re being a mirror.

Picture this: You’re at the grocery store, your 6 year-old is melting down over cereal choices, and instead of spiraling into frustration, you pause, you look inward…and shift your energy (knowing it’s a reflection).

Just like that, the tantrum dissolves, as if it were never really about the cereal at all. Because of course it wasn’t. ;-)

This is what happens when you understand the energetic dynamics between parent and child…when you stop seeing behavior as something to manage and start seeing it as something to decode.

This isn’t your mother’s parenting manual. This is conscious parenting meets energetic exquisiteness, and it’s equal parts fascinating and mind-bending in the way that all true paradigm shifts tend to be.

There are moments when our children speak of things that stop us cold - not because they’re frightening in the traditional sense, but because they know things they shouldn’t know, see things we’ve trained ourselves not to see, and carry messages that pierce through the veil of our carefully constructed normalcy.

The latest episode of Unveiled opens with one such moment: My daughter (a spiritually gifted college student who’s currently taking a break from her intuitive abilities to just be a college student) calls with a disturbing dream.

The message she delivers is both specific and chilling: “The demons of the underworld are coming to you.”

For a moment, I thought I’d woken up in a Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode. But no, just a regular Tuesday in the life of someone who works with dark forces and energetic clearings on the daily.

But here’s what made this dream significant: It wasn’t really about demons at all. It was a message for me, delivered through her. Because even when our children say they’re “done” with their gifts, even when they’ve decided to turn off that particular frequency and just live a normal life, they’re often still receiving transmissions meant for us.

Children don’t just reflect our moods or pick up on our stress - they reflect our unspoken fears, our buried traumas, our energetic debts. They become impossibly perceptive messengers for what we’ve refused to acknowledge in ourselves.

Here’s what I’ve come to understand after two decades of parenting and energy work:

Every time we worry excessively about our children, every time we cord into them emotionally out of fear rather than love, we’re not just being protective parents: we’re transferring negative data.

Our limiting beliefs about money, our anxieties about worthiness, our unhealed patterns around relationships...all of it moves into their energetic fields like furniture being loaded into a moving truck. Except they never signed the lease on our trauma. They never agreed to carry the weight of beliefs that were already heavy when we inherited them from our own parents.

My own awakening to this began with a child diagnosed with severe ADHD and ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder, for those fortunate enough not to be familiar with the acronym). Doctors insisted on Ritalin for life, painting a picture of my son’s future that felt both definitive and devastating.

My response: “Hell no!”

Not out of stubbornness or some anti-medication ideology, but out of an intuitive knowing that there was something else happening beneath the behavior…something the diagnostic codes couldn’t capture.

The result was a complete transformation (no medication required). Though it did require something arguably more challenging: a willingness to look at my own energy, my own patterns, my own unhealed places that my son was reflecting back to me with the precision of a spiritual mirror.

The secret wasn’t a new discipline strategy or reward chart. It was understanding that children under seven are particularly susceptible to taking on their parents’ programming. They literally absorb beliefs about money, success, safety, and worthiness that then become their soul lessons to unpack (unless we know how to clear it, which I do).

But here’s the grace in this system: There’s a window. A sacred energetic window before age seven where this programming can be cleared through something called a Soul Reclamation - a process of disconnecting negative emotional cords while preserving the pure soul connection between parent and child. Essentially: severing the energetic inheritance without severing the bond.

After age seven, the work becomes more complex. Not impossible, but more layered - like trying to remove roots that have already begun to intertwine with the foundation.

In my home, bedtime looks different than it did with my first child & definitely different than what most parenting books would recognize as a normal wind-down routine.

It’s not just “brush your teeth, put on pajamas, lights out.” It’s “brush your teeth, put on pajamas, put your energetic sleep protections up.” I deliver this with the same casual authority as any other household instruction, because in our home, energetic hygiene is as fundamental as physical hygiene.

My 10-year-old daughter returns from school and reports with a matter-of-factness that would seem extraordinary if it weren’t so beautifully ordinary: “Mom, I did the emotion protection today when some girls were being dramatic & I pushed out everybody’s emotions and thoughts from my field.”

She’s learned to protect herself from what’s called social contagions (the bombardment of low-frequency programming infiltrating schools). Otherwise known as: the constant energetic assault of modern childhood that most parents don’t even realize is happening, much less know how to defend against.

It sounds intense because it is. But consider the alternative: children absorbing every anxiety, every limiting belief, every fear that swirls in their environment, with no tools to filter or protect themselves.

When you’re a parent who understands this, it feels overwhelming at first - like learning a new language while simultaneously trying to teach it. But then it becomes as natural as any other form of care. You’re not just feeding their bodies and helping with homework; you’re teaching them sovereignty, discernment, and energetic hygiene.

My youngest (turning 6 today) has been my greatest teacher in this work, though he has no idea he’s teaching me anything at all.

When he acts out, I’ve learned to pause and ask a question that once would have seemed absurd: What is out of balance in me right now? What am I carrying that he’s reflecting back?

And when I neutralize my own reactivity, clear my own field, and come back to center - he shifts immediately. Not because I’ve controlled him or manipulated his behavior, but because I’ve stopped projecting my energy onto him.

This is the paradigm shift that changes everything. The pivot point between traditional parenting and conscious parenting...between seeing our children as problems to solve and seeing them as mirrors to learn from.

Most parents see difficult behavior and ask: What’s wrong with my child? How do I fix them? What consequence will finally make them comply? Or they choose the medication route, since doctors can be quite pushy about this.

Conscious parents ask: What is my child showing me about myself? What in me needs healing? What am I refusing to look at that’s now being acted out in miniature before me? What’s truly going on underneath the surface?

It’s not that children don’t have their own experiences, their own lessons, their own paths to walk. They absolutely do, and honoring that sovereignty is part of the work. But especially in those early years, they are exquisitely attuned to us…absorbing and reflecting and carrying what we won’t look at directly.

This isn’t just spiritual theory or New Age philosophy. This is a call to arms for a generation of parents drowning in behavioral diagnoses, medication debates, and the sneaking suspicion that traditional parenting isn’t working - because it was never designed for the world we’re living in now, and it never accounted for the level of spiritual warfare our children are navigating daily.

The promise here is radical: Children who live out their own purpose instead of processing their parents’ trauma. Kids with emotional mastery instead of screen addiction. A future generation that’s awake, aware, and energetically sovereign in a world that desperately needs their clarity.

Our children need this. They really, really need this.

Because right now, while some of us are carefully curating organic snacks and researching the best schools, there’s a spiritual warfare happening that most parents don’t even see. Programming infiltrating from every angle...dark force information normalized in ways that would have been unthinkable a generation ago.

And our children - especially the sensitive ones, the gifted ones, the ones who still remember how to see beyond the veil - are on the front lines of something most adults are still pretending isn’t happening.

Ready to understand what your child might be reflecting back to you?

The full Unveiled podcast episode explores Soul Reclamations and Dark Force clearings.

It’s part spiritual manual, part parenting revolution, and entirely unlike anything you learned in parenting books.

Xoxo,

Angela
