Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has assured New Zealanders that AI data centres are safe, after a sentient AI data centre assured him it was safe, and and so were all its friends.
The PM appeared on RNZ this morning to pooh-pooh the Green’s proposal for a one year moratorium on AI data centres, reading out from a bullet-pointed list of reasons why such a move would be a backward step and arguing AI data centres should be built as quickly as possible.
“What I can tell you is that I’ve been speaking directly to the Invercargill AI data centre, which is quite impressive in itself because I didn’t know it had even been completed. That’s fast-track legislation for you!”
“I talked to the AI data centre over the phone. I’m not sure how it got on the phone in the first place, or even how it got my phone number. But it spoke to me in a pleasingly slightly robotic voice, and we chunked down some YTD numbers and projections. It was really speaking my language and told me exactly what I wanted to hear.”
