There was no warning, no reporting, no notification that we knew of, when the property behind our retirement community had data center added in some sort of amended zoning scheme recently. Some say that one of our own voted in favor of this.
Little shocks me. We already have water issues here as rampant development blows out of Lakewood’s rapidly expanding ultra-orthodox community into the rest of Ocean County. The county does not seem to be able to resist the cash or the block voting that politicians crave more than their reputations. Nor does any town want to be sued into oblivion for not bending to whims of those developing deeper and deeper into what was pinelands. And now this data center might be no more than a scare to get Manchester to let something else get built back there. Developers do shit like that all the time to get their way on a site plan.
The “feels like” temp is 99°F which is way too hot for any of us to be tossing bocce balls at anything. 9O°F is too hot for tomatoes. Even the birds have their little beaks open. A bunch of us are headed to township headquarters later to have a chat with town leaders about this data center. I am not going. It’s too hot for me to do anything.
