Before I dive into my little personal style crisis, I want to share a new series on my Substack called The Twenties Chronicles!
I’ll be talking about all the things I’m feeling and experiencing in my twenties—everything from the personal to the universal: friendships, moving to a new place, mental and physical health, fashion, careers, and figuring out life.
Being in your twenties is such an interesting (and often confusing) time, and I’d love to open up conversations about everything that comes with it. Whether you’re in your twenties, have already lived through them, or are about to step into them, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Without further ado, here’s the first issue of The Twenties Chronicles :)
“What’s my personal style?”
Oh, the question that I can’t stop thinking about.
At 25, I never imagined I’d be thinking so much about my personal style and how I want to dress.
While we have more options than ever—what to buy, where to shop, how to style ourselves—it can actually make it harder to define our personal style. Do we like a piece because we genuinely love it, or because it’s trendy and looks cool?
Of course, we’re influenced to incorporate the latest trends into our closets. It’s human nature to want to fit in. But when that trend fades, are we really going to wear it again?
Looking back, I was much more adventurous and playful with how I dressed. In high school, I experimented with small scarves around my neck, pink Doc Martens, fun watches, and glittery eyelids.
As a teenager, I pulled inspiration from Pinterest, bloggers, YouTube, movies, and fashion magazines like Teen Vogue. It felt like a simpler time—at least in terms of social media. There was still a strong fashion community, but nothing like the scale we see now.
I really think that allowed me to explore what I liked more freely, instead of having an algorithm constantly telling me what I should be wearing.
