ROAR (Reading On Aging, Reframed) is a book club for readers who want stories about older women written from inside their own lives. This is not a book club about aging as decline or aging as inspiration, or about the keys to the promised land of longevity. It’s a club exploring the full human territory of a long life, with all of its own gravity.
ROAR will meet live, every other month. We’ll talk about what the book we’ve chosen stirs up. We’ll gather, discuss, and I’ll facilitate some Narrative Medicine exercises based on the reading.
The first gathering is Thursday, August 27, at 4pm PT / 7pm ET.
Here’s the part where you weigh in now: I’ve narrowed it to three books, and I’d like you to choose.
Vote for whichever one you’d most want to spend a month with. I’ll announce the winner by Monday, August 3, which gives us much of August to read.
ROAR is one of the live gatherings that comes with your paid Substack subscription—$8 a month, or $80 for the year. That also includes the weekly Chat, where the conversation keeps going between essays and readings.
Join us at the table for ROAR and the weekly Chat.
And if you’d like to support my work more fully, there’s also the Inner Circle at $198 for the year. That’s where the monthly Discernment Dispatch lives—where I take the past four weeks of studies and headlines and “have you seen this?” forwards and run them through the two questions this whole publication is built on. Along with quarterly Narrative Medicine workshops and first access to the book I’m writing.
Vote either way. The book gets chosen by all of us.
Warmly,
Andrea
