Christian Nationalists: Where Fetal Personhood Is the New Slave Patrol

This week’s newsletters cover the regime’s as-yet-unimplemented plans for women who can be pregnant. Long-time readers may recognize some of these topics, but with 84 days until the midterm elections, repetition, added nuance, and additional talking points can’t hurt.

If the current regime is successful in the midterm elections, I believe they will implement a nationwide fetal personhood law. It could come by Executive Order, by Congressional legislation, and/or by a tailored-to-the-Roberts-Court case (similar to Dobbs.)

Let’s look at what fetal personhood is; what Project 2025 said about it; what WCN extremists have tried to advance since 2024; and what current WCN candidates are saying to build our case.

What is Fetal Personhood

Christian Nationalists believe that human life begins at fertilization (before a fertilized egg implants in the uterus.) Below, readers can find this stated in the WCN Biblical Medical Ethics manifesto:

35. Beginning Of Human Life

We affirm that individual human life begins with the fertilization of the human egg with the human sperm (Genesis 4:1; Numbers 11:12; Psalm 51:5).

WCNs define as abortion anything that creates an unfavorable situation for a fertilized egg to implant. Thus they oppose all birth control methods that thicken the cervical mucus or make an otherwise unwelcome uterine environment for implantation.

They also oppose birth control methods that suppress ovulation. They believe suppressing a natural bodily process interferes with God’s will/God’s plan/God’s design. (God’s plan and God’s design are stand-in WCN terms for God’s will.)

The Catholic Church has long forbidden all forms of manmade birth control because it is God’s choice to create life. They believe God ordained marriage between one man and one unrelated woman and commanded them to be fruitful, multiply, and replenish the earth. (Genesis 1:28 - the Adam and Eve story AGAIN.) Swallowing a manmade pill or deploying other manmade advances to prevent pregnancy within marriage defies God’s order in Genesis 1:28.

The evangelical anti-abortion, forced-birth movement has adopted this view. They insist that it is not up to human beings to interfere with a natural process designed by God.

Fetal personhood is a pseudo-legal term concocted by WCN extremists to force everyone to live by their religious worldview. It is one of the tenets of Genesis 1:26-28 WCN Biblical Dominion.

I believe it is important to tie these views to religious extremism, religious fanaticism, and religious zealotry, because it removes the shine on a serious-sounding legal term like fetal personhood.

What Project 2025 said about Fetal Personhood

From the moment of conception, every human being possesses inherent dignity and worth, and our humanity does not depend on our age, stage of development, race, or abilities.

The moment of conception = FERTILIZATION

In case the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 wasn’t clear, they added this gem in their Project 2026: Saving America by Saving the Family on page 132:

Sixth, policymakers should commit to protecting life from fertilization.

It is vital to get our connections to grasp that White Christian Nationalists believe these points zealously, fervently, radically, completely, and doggedly. They believe every viable uterus, everywhere, should be forced to comply.

It doesn’t matter how much they water down this language on the national stage, play good cop/bad cop with their gaslighting, or outright lie when asked for a straight answer. FETAL PERSONHOOD is what they intend to force on everyone, and they have said so over and over and over and over again.

How WCN extremists have tried to advance this goal since the 2024 election

Here’s a sample of fetal personhood-type legislation that has been introduced since the 2024 election:

• In the US Congress, Representative Eric Burlison introduced H.R.722, the Life at Conception Act, in January 2025 to extend 14th Amendment protections to fetuses. (SOURCE)

• Montana: In 2025, House Bill 316 sought to place a personhood amendment on the 2026 ballot to override the voter-approved right to abortion, raising concerns about criminalizing IVF. (SOURCE)

• Missouri: By early 2026, Republicans introduced bills to charge women with murder for seeking abortions and established "born-alive" mandates with potential death penalty provisions for non-compliant providers. (SOURCE)

• Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Texas: Lawmakers in these states pushed legislation to prosecute women under homicide laws for obtaining abortions, removing previous exemptions for pregnant people. (SOURCE)

• Ohio: Multiple bills, including HB 87 (establishing personhood) and HB 370 (classifying abortion as homicide), were introduced to challenge the state's 2023 reproductive freedom amendment. (SOURCE)

• Florida and Colorado: Senate Bill 1284 in Florida proposed civil liability for the wrongful death of an unborn child, while Colorado considered similar personhood definitions that could impact prenatal neglect and assault laws. (SOURCE Florida; SOURCE Colorado)

We can also look for Red states to reach all the way back to the Mann Act of 1910 (also known as the White-Slave Traffic Act) to try to restrict female movement. Idaho, Texas, and Alabama have already tried to bring back this form of enslaved person bounty hunting and apply it to women.

What current WCN politicians and others are saying about Fetal Personhood

I’ll let them speak for themselves. This one from Tennessee requires playback on YouTube, but this WCN white dude hits all the fetal personhood points AND wants women who get abortions prosecuted for murder.

Over 60 high-profile WCN religious extremists have signed onto a resolution - un-ironically called the “Statement in Support of Equal Rights Protection” - to criminally charge women who choose abortion. The choice of the term equal rights is a deliberate tactic to mislead Americans into assuming it actually gives equal rights to women, not fetuses. These WCN extremists say they are targeting chemical abortion drugs, but they believe ALL FORMS OF BIRTH CONTROL are abortifacients.

Please do not let their posturing distract you from their end goal:

• White Christian Nationalists want fetal personhood to be enforced in all 50 states.

• They intend to track every US pregnancy to a live birth.

• They demand that every pregnancy that does not result in a live birth be investigated to determine whether an abortion occurred. (See yesterday’s newsletter for categories that essentially blame the woman for every lost pregnancy.)

• They want to outlaw all forms of contraception as abortifacients, including the hormonal birth control pill.

• They want to charge women who lose pregnancies with crimes, up to and including the death penalty, regardless of whether or not abortion was involved. (They will scoff at that and say I’m exaggerating, but when they require a WCN tribunal to investigate every miscarriage to determine whether or not the woman did something to cause it, don’t be surprised. In many Red states, these “tribunals” are WCN healthcare workers, WCN police officers, and nosy-body WCN family and “friends.”)

As much as I believe the United States of America hates women, practically everyone reading this knows someone who could be impacted by WCN religious laws on Fetal Personhood.

Please look at everything they’ve said above. Consider everything they’ve already done and everything they’re doing to make Fetal Personhood reality. DO NOT SAY “THEY’LL NEVER DO THAT.”

THEY ARE FORCING MORE OF THEIR WCN RELIGIOUS BELIEFS INTO OUR NATIONAL LAWS EVERY DAY.

We can stop them. But first, we must vote every WCN legislator out of office.
