Having A Website Is More Hassle Than It’s Worth!

After years of telling people that they needed their own website when starting an online business, here’s why I now tell people that they don’t.

I am more than happy to build a website for my clients and students as part of my CPR Partner Program, but I do not recommend it for people starting out today alone.

There is no need to have your own website today.

In fact, it is actually a pain having your own website because they require constant updates and maintenance.

For example, over the last couple of days I have been working on a simple payment page to take payment for a monthly fiction newsletter.

It should have taken me no more than an hour tops, except it didn’t. I have been back and forth to the page over the last 24 hours.

You see, the page builder that I normally use has been updated and changed so-much-so that I couldn’t figure out how to do what I wanted to do.

So I built a page on another website and exported it as a template.

I then tried to upload that template but the newer version wouldn’t accept it right away.

It took multiple attempts for the template to upload to my new website.

Eventually I was able to install the template and work with it… sort of!

I added an image block, but for some reason the image wouldn’t centralise.

It took numerous refreshes for the image to move.

I then wanted to add a payment button and connect it to a Stripe link.

Could I make it work? Could I hell.

I had to add an image and add a link to that… but then I had the same issue again trying to centralise the image!

I then needed to create a second simple page with 3 columns so that I could have 3 different product options side-by-side.

But oh no, the page builder had taken away the option I would normally use and replaced it with something completely new with a whole lot more ‘things to do’... but that wouldn’t work.

I ended up watching a YouTube video to see what to do, but when I did what I was shown, it still wouldn’t work.

I don’t know if the new page builder plugin has a bug, or whether it is the new WordPress installation that is causing the problems, but I just couldn’t get it to do what I wanted to do… until today…

Sort of!

I eventually managed to get the 3 columns I wanted by building a template page on another website and uploading that to the new website… after multiple attempts, I may add!

So, eventually I got the pages looking passable, and so then I went to add a product Stripe payment link to the button (which is an image remember, because the button option didn’t work)... and guess what?

The button is now no longer centre aligned!

It has shifted slightly left of the page again!

AGGGRRRRRRR!! FFS!

Well, to be fair, it looks ok on mobile view, but on desktop it just won’t centralise.

Hopefully it will rectify itself over time, but I just don’t know what to do to get the damn thing right.

And so, the reason why you don’t want a website of your own is that they are a lot of work and a complete pain at times.

Remember, I have many years experience working on them and I find them hard work at times.

Today, you don’t need to suffer any of that.

Thanks to platforms like Skool, Substack, Patreon, PayHip, and Gumroad, you can upload your digital products and sales content to these platforms and simply click ‘Publish’.

They have a team of techy developers who do all of the hard work for you.

And when it comes to traffic generation… well, you use other platforms such as:

• Facebook.

• X (formerly Twitter)

• TikTok

• Bluesky

• Medium

• YouTube

• Instagram.

Again, you do not need to do anything techy, you create your marketing content and publish it to one or more of those platforms.

They manage all of the techy work for you, you create, engage, and post.

There is no reason other than having your own controlled space online for having a website.

Everything an online business needs in 2026 can be done on someone else’s platform… and most of them are free or incredibly affordable.

So don’t get a website, choose a platform like Skool and send people to that.
